looking for new tyres for Fabia vRS mk1

Featured Replies

I simply just cant choose, ive had prada spec 2's and toyo t1rs in the past on my Clio Williams and they wore out pretty quick (and thats on a car as light as that) so im looking for something a bit better wearing.

Im looking at the Falken 452 on camskill, which look pretty reasonable, anyone had experience of them? wear time and such

also i can only seem to find them in 215/40/16 on camskill, are these alright to go on the standard alloys. (i DOnt know much when it come to sizing)

any help would be appreciated

Matt

Ive only ever run 205 tyres, currently using firestone sz90. They are quite impressive too great grip in dry and wet. Really smart tread pattern too. had mine from f1 autocentre, mainly due to they are less than a minute away from me and they worked out cheaper than all the tyre sites like camskill and tyretraders etc.

ive got hankook v12 evo's on my furby. 205/45 16's very good, way better than pirellis. traction control hardly flickers in dry, and in wet, even at high speed they have good grip.

Falken 452's were decent enough when I ran them. Good grip in wet and dry. Not the best tyre on the market but far from the worst for the price

those hankooks V12 Evos get good reviews, hows the wear on them? its just the sizes now, am i able to put 215 40's on?

Ive had evos on the front for about 3000miles,hardly any real wear.the grip is realy good wet or dry.gonna put them on the back and a new pair for the front before I go to the ring. Got mine from hslfords autocentre.garage no chav shop!

My tyres at front are worn :( running continental sport contact 2 atm and looking to go for hankooks, hopefully a bigger improvement as always get traction control light on due to remap. Also wear rate is bad

are them Evo's known as the K110 by any chance?

All sorted, they are. Have now been ordered.

Just realised you've already ordered yours, let us know how you get on with your Hankook V12 Evos. However, for the benefit of anyone else that happens to search out this topic...

For around £80-90 per corner budget, after Googling a lot reviews I came up with this shortlist (to fit the OEM wheels):

  • Uniroyal Rainsport 2
  • Falken 452
  • Toyo Proxo T1-R
  • Vredestein Sportrac 3

Vredestein Sportrac 3 205/45 R16 83V

I've got Vredestein Sportrac 3s on my front axle, and I have to say they've been brilliant so far although not sure how many miles I've done on them (fitted mid-Aug 11, will edit post if I find out). Bought them on the basis of many good reviews I'd read, on top of Auto Express's review from a few years ago. They're a bit noisy, but they have a nice looking tread pattern, very good in both damp and wet, and not bad in snow either if you have more than about 3 mm of tread on them. They're a tad vocal in the dry when pushed hard, but that just adds to the fun if you ask me

They can be hard to get hold of in the UK, I ordered my pair from mytyres.co.uk (out of all the online tyre retailers, I've found they have the biggest range), which actually came from Germany and were £85 a corner (you get free shipping from Deutschland if you order a pair). They also take a while to run in, to begin with they felt a bit fidgety, I could feel the treadblocks moving around when pushing hard, I was worried I'd made a mistake but a few hundred miles on they're fine - I think it's due to the deep tread they come with.

Other tyres in my shortlist

My mate has Uniroyal Rainsport 2s on his Fiesta and he really rates those in both wet and dry, and many fitters stock them - apparently sidewall can be a wee bit on the weak/soft side with them though, read quite a few reviews complaining of sidewall buldges after hitting potholes, albeit when fitted to heavier cars. Decided against the Toyo Proxes because I read a few people saying they're not fantastic in damp conditions. The OEM Continental Sport Contact 2s I don't rate, they're pricey at about £115 each and, as vertrider06 said, they wear at a frankly terrifying rate.
