Grinding Alloys

Featured Replies

Hi All,

It's been a while since my last post, but I had a run in with a kerb this morning...

Unfortunately living in london, parralell parking is a daily occurrence. I have no problem with this except when it all goes wrong... The alloys tend to get a little grinding every now and then. :(

Can anyone recommend any reapir methods to bring them back to life, all smooth and perfect?

Thanks,

Keoghan

Search for alloy wheel refurbish on Google. I know that Wicked Wheels is recommended by a few. It's not cheap though (about

A good temporary repair (I've been told) is to polish off the grinded area with "wet and dry", the finest grade possible (being careful not to scratch untainted bits). Then go over the area with a clear lacquer, as if treating an area of touched up paintwork. This apparently stops corrosion getting into the alloy and will stop bubbling of the face of the alloy, even in unground bits!! :(

I have just bought some wet and dry, and will be protecting my unfortunate grind & couple of chunks tonight. Wet and dry is also good for getting those black tar marks out the scratches.

There's a company called Auto Image that do alloy repairs, including repainting, our local BMW dealer uses them so they must be okay. There are branches in Glasgow and Edinburgh so maybe they're a national ? I've got a connection speed of 28kbps at work, otherwise I'd try to find you a link

28kbps. I do feel sorry for you. The place I work for has just won a massive contract and part of the IT upgrade to cope with it is an upgrade from ISDN to broadband for my office. WAHHOOOO! I only hope there will a CD-RW drive somewhere here too so I can transport all the stuff I download home. :D
