rear offside door not unlocking

Featured Replies

Hi all, yet another central locking problem here, when i open/close the doors off the key there is an annoyong vibrating/buzz noise coming from the rear offside door, sometimes it opens, sometimes it doesnt. The red LED on drivers door is flashing when locked so everything seems ok there, have i got a sticky door mechanism or electrical, dry joints, microswith etc ???? MOT coming up soon too :S

This was recently covered by another member, from memory its an easy fix as long as your door is not shut and wont open! thats where the problems start getting the door trim off. So get it sorted now before you shut the door and it never opens again. The thread was only with the last few days if I remember correctly.

the door will unlock but sometimes manually inside the car, i'm pretty mechanically minded but hate taking door trims off lol. I suspect a little white grease needs applying !!!

Mine passed in 2010 with the rear O/S door deadlocked (luckily it seemed to sort itself out not long after that), maybe they've changed the MOT regs?

Even if you can't get round to sorting it right away, at least get the door card off while you still can so a garage can get the door open with minimum fuss when its time to fix it.

Not sure where but a member has posted pics of how to remove the door card and where the screws are. I recently benefited from his pics when I had the window regulator changed. So maybe search under the window regulator. Good Luck. :)

Update, got door card off eventually, no damage to clips etc tho the handle did get a little marked, the link below explains the process very well. The noise i'm hearing when operating central locking is from a "module" near the top right hand side of the door, that moves the door knob up and down. I'll have a look around here and find out what it is.

No obvious wiring damage, i guess i'll order a lock mech. Are they easy to replace ????????? Anyone ???????

Quite straight forward, the obvious spline 8 bolts which hold it on and I think a T20 screw that needs to be wound out to be able to remove the lock blanking insert so that you can disconnect the exterior handle cable. The screw is under a grommet which is accessed when the door is open, it moves a cage whose slots line up with ridges on the insert, when they are aligned it can be pulled out, don't remove the screw otherwise the cage will fall into the bottom of the door and it will give you some avoidable work.

MOT regulations have changed, the doors do now do have to open from the outside and they must latch securely.

Thanks fordfan, just saw a vid on a Passat that was very similar to what you described. Just need to wait for lock and spline bit !!!!

Hi,
