Don't get me wrong,I'm not arrogant

Never heard of Liqui Moly. If its dealer approved, it should be good enough.

I just use 0w40 Mobil1 as Costco sell it cheap.

Guys, why don't you use some good quality, branded full syntetic oil like Castrol,Mobil 1,or maybe Liqui Moly (like I do) ,Motul ,Aral.

The oil is so important for the 1.8t I've seen it for many times.

5L of full synt good quality oil is about 40p even less ,I think is worting every penny more than everyting.

I use Liqui Moly Top Tech 5W40 full syn and it costs 28P / 5L

All of you have some awsome cars, modified cars and I think it's a pity to use cheap no-name oil.And I know you care alot of your cars

what's the point in spending all that cash on oil that only claims t be better? Vw would of spent a fortune on research etc for the right oil as its in their best interest to prevent paying out for new engines. In my opinion there's Nowt better than oe oil as its what's the engine and oil is made for.

I never tried taking the washer off because as soon as I saw that it was steel I never tried to replace it and just re-used it, it's dues another oil change in a couple of thousand miles so I'll have a look.

Ive reused the sump plug for about the last 4 services. Its not needed to be replaced each time.

Id rather spend a quid just for piece of mind you never know with an alloy sump

Well the worse case senario is that it leaks due to the washer being misshaped and all itll be is a slow drip so there's no piece of mind to be had really is there?

Do you also believe the old wives tale of not using the used oil out of the sump to lubricate the seal on the oil filter?(not applicable to octavia tdi with the paper filter)

just buy a vw 504 approved oil - job done!

It was 5l of Quantum 507.00 approved for £26.80+ vat. The Comma oil from the local motor factor was more than that and its not even approved.

Omg you mean you use dirty old oil to lubricate the oil filter seal!

Lol only joking use the old stuff all the time lol

I'd never heard that one before! I generally use new oil to lube the seal anyway as the bottle's nearby ready to go in the filler cap by then and the old stuff is sitting in a tray under the car.

I've changed the oil 4 times so far on mine, & reused the same plug with (non removeable) washer. No drips

what is that washer?

Just to prove that you don't have to spend loads for oil, correct oil for my Vrs on fixed servicing from the local dealers which includes a 10% Briskoda discount £19.56! Filter £5 sump plug £1.

how do you know if a copmapny accepts the briskoda discount? i have never asked before but would like to save some money if i can. is there a list of which companies offer a discount to briskoda?

thanks

Ask them, Dm Keith posted theirs in the dealer section

Thing that pees me off the most is stuck up snotty part guys, went to eurocarparts in york and was served buy the manager who sold me a wiper blade at half price, went back a few days later for a brake switch and was served by a stuck up twerp who refused to knock owt off so went to vw and payed 90p extra for a genuine one lol

It's years ago ,approx 2007 ,when I got Furby ,and looking for some top up oil - tried all sorts op places to find nothing I'd regard as suitable - then I went in to a local VW place - and got some lot cheaper than any of the motoring fraudsters.VW advised me that my engine needed fixed service oil - when one Stealer told me it might need variable ,and the other local one wasn't sure . Master Techs on here advised that it was fixed -so guess where I went -and it was the cheapest option - so I'd say -give them a try -sometimes you'll get a bit extra discount for being cheeky .
