Engine management light

Featured Replies

Reposted from Freedom.

Today whilst accelerating hard (approx 6k+) the emgine management light came on then went off. It's only ever happened under these circumstances. I did have the DSG in 'S' mode.

Anyone else experienced this and is it normal ?

Cheers

Yup iv had that think its todo with the emsisions building up in the cat and the sensor having a hissy fit.......but i could be wrong but it seems logical as it happened once under hard accelartion and once when stuck in snow

Engine management light comes on if there is a fault in the exhaust side of the engine

Yup happened to me in similar circumstances foot down light flashing on & off not got a clue why?

Thats the misfire issue. When it comes on and flashes shortly thats a small misfire. When it flashes for a while you have had a lot of misfiring.

The blocks on these get very very hot, resulting in the car 'overfueling' to cooldown. They also cook the standard plugs. This is why I have gone for an uprated radiator to draw that extra heat out of the block.

Now you've mentioned it, when I ran Torque, it identified a misfire in 2 cylinders emoticon-0143-smirk.gif

Was the car fully warm or still a bit cold?

Yes, fully warmed. End of a 1 hour trip.

Might be worth popping it back to the dealers and tell them you've found misfires mate

It happened to me after a 60 miles motorway journey, then came to a set of lights at the end of a dual carriage way, I booted it from the lights an got EML and the other one that's there thinks its EPC or something like that, so I took it easy and it went off. Then coming home it done the same, it seemed to me it was after holding it a 70 then wanting to accelerate hard it didn't like it, never happened since.

I got the error code C0700 I think

It was a misfire in cylinder 3 (not 2 cylinders as I mentioned)

I do have new NGK plugs, but can't fit them yet due to not having a coil pack removal tool and believe it or not, A SPARK PLUG SPANNER ! emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

I'll keep my eye on it in the future.

I also have the new type of plugs ready to go in but have been put off due to needing the tool, vRSy has said it can be done without, maybe he can put a little how to together ;) lol

It could be with a pincer like set of grips or pliers, but you'll gouge out the coilpacks and mark them etc. Coil pack removal tool is the way forward

Where would I get one? Had a quick look on eBay but to no avail

Seen one similarly priced I think I'll buy 4 one for each coil pack lol

And as if by magic i have made a coil pack remover:

MK1.jpg

Works perfect, grab it in the correct place squeeze and pull = 1 removed coilpack!

Just for a bit more protection I added a bit of heat shrink sleeving just so it doesn't mark the coilpack! This will be known as the MK2 version
