R32 FARB

Featured Replies

When fitting a new FARB such as an R32 FARB what drop links are used? Do you get new octy VRS ones, R32 ones or are some special after market ones needed.

If the car already has a LCR subframe, hubs, steering rack and wishbones will this make a difference to what ARB links are needed?

Is the LCR FARB as good as an R32 one? are they the same?

Thanks

no special droplinks are needed, as long as yours are good they are fine.

LCR 23mm front arb is the same as the r32 front which is 23mm, there is a 21mm front arb that will fit too from the tt.

+1....

The R32,LCR,Audi TT etc all use exactly the same drop links as the VRS.

certainly building up your information base on this conversion Lee.

you guys know plenty. will take a good while before i exhaust your knowledge. rest assured my pocket will run dry long before you knowledge does

Are you sure the lcr arb is 23mm ? My old one had a 19mm one and the guys on cupra.net all use the r32 one as a upgrade.

if this is true of the ARB on the LCR being 19mm am l best getting hubs, subframe and lower brace, arb, steering rack with tie rod ends, wishbones from this R32 instead or sticking with all the LCR stuff and just buying the front and rear ARB from this vehicle - see link below

Whats all this about please?I am lost.... :wonder: I take it its something that makes the handling better maybe? :wonder:

I thought the LCR had the 19mm FARB too?

the TT has a bigger one and the R32 has the biggest at 23mm. I am sure the LCR has 19mm

mm Looking on ETKA now the ones wit the DL to the struts there is:

18mm 1J0 411 305 AC this one has LCR in the description

20mm 1J0 411 305 AE this one is for the 4x4

????

So looks like the LCR has a 18mm FARB.

1J0 411 305 AF is the 23mm FARB Marked Yellow

1J0 411 305 D is the 21mm FARB

early 4x4 tts had 21mm as did the s3 iirc, problem is there are so many variants and not all models had the same setups,

i thought the lcr was 23mm too, its quite a while since i did this and my research so i might be wrong, it could be 18,19,20,21, or 22mm lol

so to be sure guess it is best just to buy an R32 ARB that way you know when it arrives posted from ebay it is going to be 23mm. i assume that i can also get 23mm ARBs fron neuspeed and similar companies it i cannot get a second hand R32 one off ebay

yes thats just an upgrade tho and not oe, i agree 25mm would be too much on the front

LCR's do not have a 23mm FARB they are either 19mm std or seem to make a change of the later ones to 21mm.

Think only the Golf R32 has a 100% 23mm thoughout it's life. Think Even the Audi TT and S3 did not start off with a 23mm bar.

so best get the R32 one to be sure. Plenty of them

As for the rest of the parts you need , yes a LCR is good for you.

So is the ideal combo (or at least a good combo) the R32 23mm front ARB and whatever the standard rear R32 arb was or is there a better rear arb to complement the R32 23mm front one?

thanks

I'd go as big as you can on the back, something like the Neuspeed 28mm one. I had a Whiteline 24mm one on mine set to medium setting and that didn't feel good enough, it was still too understeery really.

Thanks.

That neuspeed 28mm bar is over £200. I was hoping the std rear R32 ARB would be a good bet and hopefully 3 or 4 times cheaper. is the mk4 R32 ARB up to the job and a good amount better than the std VRS one? ont that i am saying the neusoeed one is not one of the better ones but i am looking at it from a perspective of what will make the biggest difference for least price.

thanks for getting back though

Lee the R32 is 4WD, although the FARB can be used the rear end set up is totally different than our 2WD and any other 2WD VAG range cars. So the R32 REAR won't fit.

You will need a aftermarket RARB. Best option for most users are a 22mm or 24mm whiteline. But if you are going R32 23mm upfront with a LCR/TT front end set up then you need to go 25mm or even 28mm Neuspeed. And yes they are a lot more expensive than Whiteline. Rule of thumb is should have a thicker RARB than FARB.

The Job you are looking to do regarding LCR and other handling will take you down a expensive route end of, there is no real cheap way. The only saving is second hand parts on the front end, but RARB very hardly come up as they are either left on the car or a very popular purchase so snapped up quick. I paid £150 for my Neuspeed 28mm on ebay and resprayed it.

Also with all that set up you will defo need good poly bushes as your std ones will be under a lot more stress. I think you said those have been done though right. Although if changing wishbone fit new bushes then.

thanks Bowders helpful as ever. i guess with all the 2nd hand front susrpension stuff it is not too bad to have to buy an after market ARB. the main thing for me being to ask you guys first what works and what is compatible so i do not buy something which just will not work with the std R32 front set up.

cheers

Ask away buddy, that's what we are here for.

If its too much for you then leave the std 19mm on front and get the Whiteline 24mm rear. That will still be a damn good upgrade and will be a lot cheaper.

As said, its not cheap.

I just got the early TT 4WD complete setup and yes i measured a 21mm ARB
