Standard Exhaust

Featured Replies

Hey I am swapping my exhaust over tonight on my drive in the dark... So wanted to see if anyone had a picture of their vRS from underneath and or a picture of a complete standard exhaust.

I am swapping from cat back.

Anyone know what tools I'll need? sizes?

I know of one for certain, and thats a bloody big lump hammer... honestly, speaking from a guy who use to be a custom exhaust maker & standered exhaust fitter, dont even try... the least you will need will be a pit, sorry if i have dampened your eagerness :( you did ask!!!!

lol that has put a bit of a damper on things but as a slight note I did have the exhaust off recently in a garage so maybe it wont be so hard?

Pretty sure you'll have to cut the original exhaust to remove it, I sure as hell couldn't get it off without. I used a 4 post lift, and access was still a PITA.

On driveway in dark? You're a braver man than me.

Those words were a distant memory "SURELY CANT BE THAT HARD" if it's on a splitter, there will be a u clamp attached, if it comes off ok thats fine, the ball ache will be trying to slip the outer part off the inner, GOOD LUCK....

I guess as you haven't been heard from is..... you have yelled out almost every swear word known on earth, lost about 6 pints of sweat, in need of skin graft on at least 4 fingers, missed out on your T, sha***d the dog & took your missis out for a walk & after all this you still didn't get the damn exhaust off , please prove me wrong tho, hope you got it off ok and now sitting down to a nice cool pint of lager.... ps.... those were the days....... except the dog & missis, ha ha, & the pint ;)

Nope, six now... do you think he is still under the car...... bet his torch batteries will be flat by now

There is an app for that! lol I was using torch on my iPhone.

I went for a walk with the dog so I didnt get to reply last night haha.

As you can guess couldn't get the exhaust away from the car. Got all the brackets for the rubbers off even got the flange apart at the downpipe, it was lose and the job was nearly a good un.

Could I $%^£ get the exhaust over the rear axle and away from the car!!! It's getting cut off tonight at a mates garage with a good old grinder.

I can't say cos i haven't worked on a vrs, but on some motors you literally have to get the exhaust so its almost in the pointing down position to get it around the axle, thats why i suggested the least you need will be a pit, if i were you and you you dont need the exhaust your taking off then angle grind either side of the chassis, it may be the quickest and simplest.... good luck...

I need the exhaust to go to stefan on here. We are going to try again tonight but he said we are ok making one cut and then he will just sleeve it.

:) Should be a good one tonight. Luckily both exhausts that are going back on tonight are 3 part systems so fingers crossed shouldnt cause any issue.

Meanwhile, 2 hrs later...

Result? All sorted?

Got the exhaust off my mates fabia in the end and stefen dropped off the stainless exhaust (thanks mate). The plan then was to put my standard / mufflerectomy exhaust onto my mates car and then the stainless onto mine. Started removing my exhaust and snapped a turbo/downpipe bolt :( fail. So rather than risking snapping another I fitted the stainless exhaust to my mates car to get him home then we are going to my mates garage on the weekend to swap them over... I know effort!!!
