vRS remap insurance question?!

Featured Replies

Could be worse just phoned my insurance (direct line) they wont cover a power increase of more than 20%. So anyone know the exact stated power for a vrs as i think its a little over 130, get round the small print some how.

I'd stay steer away from any main stream insurers if you are planning mods - as said the site sponsors shoudl sort you out.

Also stay as far away from comparison sites as possible when you do have mods as they premiums that come back will just depress you.

I find that even with standard policies (like for my unmodified Ibiza) you can put the details in 100% correct but there is always something wrong and call to confirm details normally add a couple of hundred quid to the price.

Yes they are good to get a rough idea but unfortunately you can't beat a bit of phoning round.

As said though unfortunately you are a young and inexperienced, and driving a pretty quick car.

All of which makes you, in the eyes of insurers, an accident = claim = payout waiting to happen.

As has been said leave any modifications until after you move company when your renewal comes up or expect to be shafted.

The difference in taht getting your own pilcy early is actually a blessing.

When i got to 17 I thought i was on to a winner as my dad said he'd by me a car if I insured it.

He spent £99 buying a Fiat Uno off a mate for me to learn in and i was stuck with £800 to insure it!

Now though 11 years down the line I now have a full no claims discount and a policy around the £400 mark for my modified Fabia.

I'm 18 and just purchased a Fabia VRS SE and I'm £911.12 for 12 months

With 2 years NCB

Personally i'd wait for renewal then find a good independent broker as opposed to a 'computer says no' call centre type. My previous car had a list of retrofitted options and modifications including remap that meant I deal with the same person every yearand have done since day one, 6 years later I still deal with the same woman and I swear she knows my car better than I did. If i've ever had an unusual request eg adding another car on temp cover for a month/mirroring NCB etc. i've got a quick answer, a fair deal and never once felt the service has been anything less than spot on. Adding modifications mid way through the policy or switching things around has also been painless. I also pay over a grand less than my previous insurance company wanted to charge at renewal and that was cheap according to comparison sites. Sadly they only cater to kit/specialist cars so aren't that competitive on normal stuff.

I assume good brokers are mostly region-independent, so any chance you could PM me the details of the company you use? Mine will be up for renewal soon and I'm expecting a rise (almost everyone I know says their insurance is climbing) so I'm always up for new ideas to try and keep a bit more of my hard-earned cash in my pocket rather than everyone elses :)

I'll PM you the details over :) They're national but they specialise in kit/replica, classics and randomly smart car insurance. From experience when I had to put my Octavia on cover with them come renewal I could find cover for less (that turned out to be a mistake but that's another story). Unfortunately my Roadster engine blew last week so i've just picked up a mk1 Furby to tide me over as i'm getting married at the end of the month and didn't fancy an £1800 repair bill.
