Greasing my poles

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I've just managed to fix the broken alternator load signal wire/exciter thingamajig, It's nice to see the battery light again!

As my battery is now 8 years old, and the wire has been broken for somewhere between the last 3-9 months without me noticing (until the power steering stopped coming on), I thought it would be kinder to replace the battery as well.

I'm hearing a few different opinions and the search hasn't come up with anything I can find - but do I need to grease the battery terminals (the current ones seem to be greased but I've heard that they shouldn't?). And if I am, will any old grease do? or am I looking at something specific for batteries, dielectric pehaps? (is it just to keep it from oxidising, or to help conductivity?).

Plus, if there's any bits to look out for when changing the battery, a heads-up is always welcome!

Thanks,

I don't these day's....just spray and wipe with WD40!!!!....seems to work well!!... B)

I generally use ky jelly, because i am way above average

............

sorry, are we talking about the same thing

...... .......I don't have a particluar problem with polish women........just I prefer any woman to be well "greased".......

The official Fabia workshop manual says:

Battery handling instructions

* Neither grease nor oil the battery terminals.

* The battery terminals must only be fitted by hand without using any force in order to avoid damaging the battery housing.

* The tightening torque of the additional terminals at the battery terminal is 6Nm.
