Help needed! Red battery light flashing.

Featured Replies

On my way to work this morning the red battery light light starting flashing on and off. It soon stopped though and everything appeared to be normal. However, when I parked up there is vibration and a small grumble when I steer (when parking).

My thoughts would be the alternator or something. However, I fitted a new battery about 2 weeks ago and tested the alternator at the same time and it read just over 14 volts.

Anything I should look out for? It's a 2002 A3 TDI Quattro.

Any help would be hugely appreciated!

I'd check the one way pulley on the alternator, probably find its seized and maybe coming off? Also check the alternator wiring to the battery.

I'm having this same issue today with my Audi A4 2.0 FSI.

Out of interest, how did you check it?

I held the blades with a screwdriver and turned the freewheel with my hand, there was a slight bit of resistance. Is this not normal?

Sounds about right, you should be able to turn it one way quite easily but not the other.

Thanks for the help guys. As I take I need to buy an M10 spline tool. Does anyone know any shops where I can buy one of these?
