Where do I start?!

Featured Replies

OK, my car is currently in a bit of a state. So, I`v been thinking its time I invest in some decent cleaning gear, although i`m very much clueless in all things car cleaning, as you`ll see in a second but i`m keen to learn. So, first of all, have I got the following process right;

Rinse

Snow foam?

Rinse

Shampoo

Rinse

Polish

Wax/Seal

Is that the right kind thing? I know you dont snow foam it every time, nor polish it every time.

Secondly, advise for which products are best? I have a couple of buckets, wash mitt but that is about it, I know its a personal thing, some will prefer others etc but anyone with some pointers would be great

Thanks

matt

I polish mine every time :) I'd too like to know the best combination kit to detail a car, from detailing tape to the wax's and grades of what ever the pro's use!

You dont want to be using polish everytime you wash the car!!

I just go straight to snow foam clings to the car longer then I rinse

2 buckets and a wash mitt is the perfect start! The wash process is the basis for any decent looking car. Along with snow foam it will keep your car looking better for longer. A process I would throw in there is claying the car! A good guide here http://cleanyourcar.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=9751&sid=7da89d59a17a8e6bb8420832fbcc98e5&start=0 after you wash but before you polish. If you plan to remove swirls then you will need a machine which is a whole new world in car care, but by hand a good all in one like carlack 68 nano system care a followed by a decent wax/sealant like finishkare 1000p or collinite 476s. These can be used to seal the wheels too. You can go into colour specifics if you like, but that is a decent starting point.

If I can add my 2 pence-worth; De-taring and removing iron deposits before claying while help even more.

Also if you go down the route of using the CarLack twins (which I heartily recommend  ) then I have picked up a little tip; you can keep a mixture of CarLack LLS mixed 50:50 with de-ionised water in a spray bottle and use that after each wash. It acts as a quick detailing spray that will give your paintwork a little boost to prolong your LSP and shine without having to wax the car every time. B)

I know you dont snow foam it every time, nor polish it every time.

I foam mine every time ! Mainly to just get rid of the krud thats built up.

As for a product. I use Magifoam through an Autobrite HD Lance.

This was the result on mine, car not washed for 2 months, foamed and left for 20 mins and rinsed. It wasn't touched with a wash mitt or anything, purely foamed and rinsed.
