Hot/burning rubber smell from diesel Monte

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone has witnessed this at all

Drove 3 miles into town today, parked up, and on getting out of the car immediately smelt a hot/burning rubber smell

No indicator lights on dash to show any faults etc

Done just under 5000 mils since end of September

Any clues? :(

It's not something I'd spotted before, and I didn't fancy putting 'burning rubber' in Google :)

Yep Bryan a common issue on DPF fitted cars, especially if they are relatively new.

Had it on my VRS in the beginning much more than after a couple of miles were on the clock.

But even the A6 can still be smelly if doing a regen (after more than 130000km) and stopping in a garage.

Thanks, Mike

I have to say I've never noticed it on the CR Octavia - hence my concern when it was so noticeable on the Monte

If the occasional regen is in the middle of a trip, you wont notice much. It is the coincidence when having a regen and having to park the car in relatively closed space.

Than you will notice the smell coming from under the car. Parked in an open space with a little bit of wind, it can be unnoticed.

I'll make sure I have wind next time B)
