Vrs front knocking noise

Featured Replies

Just has mine done on my second VRs - massive difference.

My 2007 (57) 42K vRS is knocking ever so slightly so its a fix I'll need to explore sooner rather than later.

Do you mind me asking how much it cost you to have them replaced?

  • I was chatting a friend of mine with a 07 elegance and he found his noise, was front wishbone bushens , was only a tiny bit of play in them which he found with a lever bar, replaced both sides €5 each

  • had same fault on my vrs, had it on the ramp and nothing obvious to see or feel in any of the joints or bushes... very very slight wear marks on the rubber of the front rear wishbone bushes the ones

  • I'm going to change mine soon,I'm a vehical tester and it's the front bush on the wishbone is more common,Im convinced that's my noise as even minimal play will make this noise.

That's £53 a side, so £100 for parts, then say an hours labour each side @£90?

I guess I'm looking at the thick end of three hundred notes then!

As iv said lots of times in this tread there not the bushings that are gone,it's the smaller bush on the front of the wishbone there about £5 only each and have to be pressed in.

I test 20 cars a day so trust me :)

That large rear bush only goes with big milage but rarely does,we alway have people replacing the large bush by mistake and failing the test again.

Can you post a pic of what one mate?? I'm still gettin knocking have done since May 2011 two dealerships cant find it.

Drop links don't go on octavia ll, even tie rods don't go ether that much unless high milage, most common would be the wishbone bushens but as said above u would feel this more in the steering.

Anyone else have this front slight knock?

Yes I have and yes, it was a drop link.

They do go and as soon as changed, the knocking was gone.

Well iv never seen drop links go and I do test probably 10-15 octavias a week.

Has anyone ever priced complete genuine Skoda wishbones?

silver1011 if you feel like visiting our place in Leeds then I can promise you I can find solutions for your suspension problems. PM me if you want to know more.

Thanks allias, it's not bad enough yet but as soon as it is I'll give you a shout

I'm taking a punt on you David, I hope you're right!

I had knocking/banging etc. at slow speed, really bad whilst steering over rutted ground in car parks etc. The car flew through it's MOT, but I still took it to a Mechanic who I would trust with my life (well nearly) and he couldn't fault the bushes on there.

I still changed them for the full set of Superpro ones, console bushes and front wishbone bushes. The difference was like night and day, no more knocking, solid feeling to the car rather than the slight bagginess that had made it feel loose to drive over less than perfect roads. Even down to running over manhole covers used to send a shudder down the steering and make the car skip a little off line, all that cured instantly.

Yes they do transmit a little more through the cabin, but I'm talking so little that some people would never notice, you can get bigger differences in harshness by changing tyre brands.

I can recommend the full super pro front wishbone kit too as it only cost £110 and includes 3 year / 36k warranty too

Sounds awesome! Can you tell me where I might purchase these kits from?

I purchased mine through c&r enterprises, vw tunes in the east midlands

For the TFSi octavia the superpro part numbers are:

Front wishbone bush kit: SPF3346K

Front wishbone rear console bush insert: SPF3271K, And if you want the console bush to be of the antilift variety (bit like a WALK kit) the code is: SPF3273K

About £125 for the bush set, the antilift or standard style console bushes by superpro are the same price at about £83 and the front bushes by superpro about £42

Sweeeeeet! So did you go for the antilift vairent then? Sounds like it might be worth a punt. Thats unless I can get Skoda to change them under warrenty of course?!

Yeah I went antilift, tbh on their own I'm not sure it makes a massive difference. Mine still spins like mad in the wet in 1st and second gears. I do have those michelin energy tyres though and they are a bit poo for grip.

Well I have a Shark DPF removal so if it stops it spinning in 3rd a 4th in the wet it will be a good investment. Tbh 2nd is pretty useless in the dry.

Who did you get to fit these bushes? Can the consol bushes be fitted incorrectly? That's my biggest concern for giving the job to anyone..

I work next-door to a garage, old fashioned type who I can trust!. Yeah the superpro ones can be fitted off centre as such but its pretty easy to line them up correct if the garage is half decent. In the wet I still hat the traction come on in third but it is minimal.

Personally I think these cars need a bit of negative camber on the fronts to dial a bit of the wheelspin out. Oh and lowering would help but I live in a place covered with speed bumps.
