RPM sensor Skoda Octavia Estate 2 litre 2007

Featured Replies

I absolutely love my 2007 Skoda Octavia Estate Elegance ( 2 litre diesel, 6 speed )

The handling, the brakes, the acceleration , the comfort, etc.etc. BUT !!! I have had a problem 3 months ago when the car suddenly lost power and started juddering down the road ... the ABS , oil and traction control lights all came on at the dashboard... The car then stopped. I left it for a few minutes and then it restarted ... I managed to get it back home with lots of juddering ( and sweating by me ! )... Got my local garage to test it out and they diagnosed a faulty RPM sensor . I had it replaced at a cost of £160+ and the car seemed fine for exactly 3 months..

Same problem occured this morning and I am going to ring my garage in the morning to see what they can do.

Hope they will cover it under warranty .. and hope it wont happen again.

Anybody had anything like this happen to them ? and is there an easy solution to prevent it happening again ?

Any help will be appreciated... Cheers, Rod from Aylesbury, Bucks.

There is a chance it wasn't the crank sensor? If its the pick up that the sensor works off the gearbox has to come out and sump has to be removed as its part of the rear main oil seal behind the flywheel, this has to be fitted with the correct tool as it needs to be set to TDC or it won't work.

Many thanks for your quick reply ! Would it be easy for the garage to determine this ?

Impossible to say, depends on the garage.

If the crank sensor is faulty the engine won't start, also quick way to check is the rev counter won't move at all when cranking. If the crank sensor is working it will register. Few hundred rpm as it spins over.

Thanks again ....Great help.

The garage are collecting my Skoda on Tuesday and I will then here their outcome ... Will keep posted.

Cam or crank sensor? That said I'm assuming the engine has a cam sensor...

Right ! I have just picked my Skoda up from the local Garage today...

They confirmed that the RPM sensor was the culprit...They also noticed that an oil pressure switch had cracked and that there was a slight oil leak around the switch... They said that it may have been the reason for the RPM sensor playing up...

My knowledge is useless but the garage replaced the sensor and oil switch and only charged me for the switch ... the rest was covered by warranty ...

Nice Family garage ...A good reason to stay loyal to them !

I was considering upgrading the car if I couldn't sort this problem but will now keep it as I DO love it's size, comfort and driving characteristics.

Do you think it a good idea to change the glow plugs and pollen filter ...and can you think of anything else that would help in keeping the car running great and trouble free .. ( at little expense cos I do not like paying £75 - £100 per hour for garage charges on simple jobs.)

Any guidance appreciated....

Rod
