Hiya,

Recently got rid of the OH's renault grand scenic after the electronic harndbrake failed. Got her a 53 plate fabia SDI estate, one owner with 63k miles on it for £1300 taxed and MOT'd as a trade in from my local skoda dealer (a friend works there).

Anyway its now got 71k on it and due a service. I've bought the filters but have some oil in the garage which I bought when it was being cleared from the local supermarkets. What I'd like to know is which I should use. Please don't tell me I need to buy something else at £40 a gallon as I simply can't afford it sadly.

First option is havoline (synthetic) 5w 30 A1/B1 with spec ford WSS-M2C913-B

Second is Castrol GTX (semi synth) 15w 40 A3/B3 with VW spec 501 01/505 00

I first thought the havoline for its 5w rating in this cold weather, but am now thinking the GTX is better having the right VW spec even though its a bit thicker when cold.

I got loads ofthe GTX when they sold it off at my local Tesco at £2.99 for a 2l tub so hopefully its up to the job!

Thanks.
