TDI Tuning

Has anybody tried these out, if so, what do you think??? they reckon an extra 35% increase on power+torque also an extra 15% in mpg. the price is reasonable, but wanted some feedback before parting with cash so was wondering if anybody had there motor fitted with this box thing?

It's a box of trick's... it is a box of electronics that fits between the fuel injectors and the ECU, but the ideal thing about it is if you want to take off, you just unplug it and re plug the original back in, JD

They work, but in a dirty way. They simply trick the ECU into injecting more fuel one way or another.

Maybe a link to the one you are looking at? There are many tuning boxes on the market, some a lot better than others. If you're looking at the £20 ebay specials, don't bother. It's simply a 20p resistor in a nice box.

A decent remap is much more reliable way of getting more power and possibly better fuel economy (if you're light footed), but obviously that can't be transferred to another car.

They seem the bees knees, and the best of it is if you change car, they can re-programme your box to the new vehicle, have a look and read to give me your thoughts???? www.tdi-tuning.co.uk, it's a lot cheaper than a remap.... duuno.... see what you think anyhow :(

Probably safer than one of those cheap resistor kits, but nowhere near as good as a remap. You either want to be remapped or you don't. I don't see any real point in having option to remove unless you are worried about warranty, insurance finding out, servicing, etc. Basically, tune it, or don't. That's just my personal opinion. :)

The only advantage of a tuning box over a remap as I have experienced in the past is that when it's time to trade in or sell your car you can get at least half your money back on a tuning box whether with a remap the £300 or so paid is lost and it even costs to have the ecu put back to standard

i had a £350 tuning box and it improved both power and mpg i used it for 3years,the downside was it killed the catalytic converter due to over fuelling when under hard throttle.

I would only have custom remaps now no more overfuelling and expensive damage :)

I used to think the Digital Tuning box I had years back were great, to be honest though when I got myself a custom Re-map, I realised they were just crude & over priced rubbish. A poor increase of 10bhp over stock, huge overfulling (smoke), rough idle & MIL light. Doesn't make for a wise choice. When I had it Mapped the car was transformed, honest like Night & Day, very torquey, very smooth, minimal smoke & worth every penny. Just my two penny worth.

"This system is far more than a resistor, it uses a PIC based processor and has a dedicated circuit board. The system has been a long term best seller for over 6 years without any issues what so ever. You get a 3 year warranty and 14 day money back guarantee as standard."

Does that make the aforementioned tdi-tuning people's box sound reasonable for the £70?

My TMC box seems to work alright to be honest, it's on a petrol though.

The TMC box is coming at £300! Why pay that much for a box when a remap costs almost the same? Is it just the advantage of being able to remove it pre-servicing or when selling on?

The TMC box was a present so I didn't actually pay for it

Take it the Wife didn't buy it ?

I can just hear that conversation with mine.

"What can I buy you for your Birthday Jon ?"

"Tell you what love, you can get me a tuning box thingy for the car"

"How much are they then "

"About £300"

"You can **** off, you spend enough behind my back on that car !"

:giggle:

:giggle: I'm still a young(ish) gun so no wife just yet!

Nah family member did, was actually quite surprised myself!

Oh that's alright then...what a thoughtful gesture!
