Anyone have first hand experience of EBC Yellow Stuff brake pads?

Featured Replies

I know that they are :-

a) pretty expensive

B) totally unnecessary for my car

but the advertising blurb says that they are supposed to cut down on brake dust, and do the job very, very well

Are they worth it, or is there better VFM to be had?

Cheers

The yellow ones are track day pads brim.. You've got to get them good and hot for them to be effective, so if I'm honest I'd say you will be sorely disappointed if you fitted them to your car.

my money would go on mintex m1144 pads for every day use.

Forgot to add, they are quite noisy on oem brake discs too, you would he far better off using the green stuff ones for 'fast road' use its ebc pads you are specifically after, and they also make another upgraded oem spec pad which I can't remember the name of off hand, something like ultimate :wonder: but as I said above mintex m1144 have always given better performance than ebc in my opinion, I'm sure somebody else will come along with something else to offer, I hear that the ferrodo 2500s are meant to be good on the road too but I've never used them so can't comment.

Only on a GT-R, it ate through them far faster than other makes.

Killed them in one track day when other sets would last for five or six on the same guy's car.

I wouldn't use them at all, or track day pads for road use in general.

I ran them once in my S2 and never again. Ferodo DS2500 ever since and never looked back.

All negative so far then - that answers my question

Thanks for all the replies

Yellow Stuff are (road legal) track day pads. Some people say that DS2500 pads are not technically road legal as they don't comply with regulations (reg 90).

I would have thought EBC red Ceramic pads would be perfectly fine for you.

I've had the Red Stuff pads on my Fabia for a couple of years, and they are good for road use. Loads less brake dust than the standard pads too.

Just to add, just inherited yellow stuff pads on my vrs. I will be getting rid of them anytime soon, noisy and not that impressed with them for daily use. (obviously previous owner was a bit of a street racer then!)

If they are noisy, why not strip the brakes and cover the back and sides of the backing plate (and shims) with copper-slip.

After my experience with Greenstuff pads, I wouldn't touch any offerings from EBC with a $hitty stick!
