High bulb usage

Featured Replies

I've been getting through dipped beam bulbs like there's no tomorrow at the minute. I had two go in December (simultaneously), and had one go as soon as I replaced those two, and I've had another one go today.

The bulbs I have put in have only been cheap ones, but I'm wondering whether it's worth putting more expensive ones in if there is a problem which is causing these bulbs to blow.

So, any ideas what could be causing this, or shall I put some more expensive bulbs in and hope for the best?

(Sorry if this is a little unclear, just finished night shift!)

Obvious first, but your not touching the bulb glass with fingers or anything greasy are you?

Nope, not been doing this, the ones that went in before lasted well over a year.

The old adage applies here 'Buy cheap, Buy twice!'

Yeah, I did wonder about this, which is why I posted! I will try some slighter better ones I think and see if that solves it. Just wondered if there were any other things which might be causing problems.

We had the same on a customers Fabia, there was a bit of headlamp flicker as well. That car did a pair of replacement bulbs in less than 3 months. We put it down to the headlamp flicker as the bulb filaments were heating and cooling putting them through a fair few fatigue cycles. After doing the usual tests, charge rate of the alternator, PAS sensor, we concluded that it was the battery, changing the battery has seemed to have cured it.

Check charging voltage!

That's interesting about the battery, on a cold morning my car seems a bit reluctant to put life into the engine however once it's been Started for the rest of the day it's fine, also iv had the car 13 months ish and iv gone through I would say 3-5 bulbs, can't say I kept a record however it's something I was a bit like hmm only just replaced a bulb now another ones one etc etc I was using halfords "super brilliance " or what ever shower of **** they call it and they aren't cheap

Had two passenger side head lamps blow on mine since November and at the same time the side light bulb goes. Did read a while back some fabia's are prone to it. Though i would like to find a reason after halfrauds stinging me for a Tenner

Yeah, this is my 3rd passenger one to go. One went after being in the car for about 10 minutes, which seemed really odd, and super annoying. My car sometimes takes a little while to start on cold mornings too, seems to just take a bit longer than I'd expect, nothing too serious though. I've decided to stick with the bulbs I've got in until my next service (2k miles) and get the battery tested then or I'll get it done if another bulb goes before then.

I'm going to get my volt meter on it this morning to see how much it's holding. I think I will change glow plugs at same time, cars on 142k still on standard glow plugs to the best of my knowledge
