MOT time

Featured Replies

Its the horrible time of year again. (first time with my vrs)

Does anyone know how bad the brakes have to be to fail? My discs are a bit rusty on inside so friction surface on inside of disc is smaller than it should be. Brakes feel fine and work well, but wondered if anything specific made them fail?

I know the pads are checked and the performance has to be up to scratch, not sure that rusty discs would fail an MOT, see http://www.motester.co.uk/Home/MOTChecklist.aspx

The rust on discs and hubs is nothing more than surface rust that can be rubbed off.

Rust is only a problem if is causing any kind of structural weakness. Such as a sill with a hole in it.

If the pads and discs are above minimum thickness and they work it will pass.

Cheers, thanks for responses. Will find out today.

Your vRS should have a pad wear indicator which iirc comes on when there is still a couple of 1000 miles left in them.

As said it will only be surface rust, but if you say the friction area is reduced it could mean a warped disc or carrier, but you should feel that under braking. If it's any consolation, you can get a full set of front discs and pads for under 100 quid using the Briskoda discount code on the Euro Car Parts site (sponsor on here).

Do you mean two discs and two pads for £100?

Two discs and four pads......if you want them to work? :giggle:

Pads

-25% Briskoda discount, so under £100 delivered!

They do offer an alternative make 'Eicher' silly cheap and never heard of them so would stick with OE equivilent or better tbh.

Thanks!

Turns out (excessive) rust on the brake discs = a failure.

Good job I was expecting it.
