miles from a tank in a standard vRS

Featured Replies

I'm getting around 400 miles, I got 440 recently before I had to fill up, this is before the light comes on too, don't ever like taking the risk just incase I do need the fuel some time for an emergency or something.

I've got one of those apps on my phone which tells me I'm averaging around 45.1 mpg. The trip computer tell me it's more around the 54 mpg mark but sadly it's lying! While 45 mpg doesn't really show the vrs true colours its a lot better than some of the petrols I've had which were high 20s and I had a Focus TDCI which I had to baby to get 42mpg!

Expansion tank mod - 53 litres (full to brim) I would say 550-650 miles for me.. I have never had less than 520 miles

  • Ah yes. Forgot there were two different gearboxes. I have the earlier and longer geared one. And as I said 70 is 1800rpm in mine. Also Let's it get up to top speed a little better. Mines standard an

Most of it is reasonable reading, but a few sub 37mpg fills where I was using my car delivering Chinese! (Fuel cost left of pic and fuel economy right side)

600 miles with an overfill. 51mpg long-term MPG average, all motorway. 60 easily possible, but boring.

am about 400-450ish but on my last one a could get 500ish..so do notice a little difference.

if you just look in the neck of the fuel tank there is a small nipple which when the flap is shut it pushes it in which causes an air hissing sound which you won't hear as you have closed the flap.

Anyway what i do is fill the tank as much as you can, use the fuel nozzle and de-press this nipple in and you will hear the hissing sound and the fuel with drop and fill into the tank, you then keep putting more diesel in, i tend to put the fuel nozzle into the filler neck so not to spill the fuel over side of car, just keep filling and pressing the nipple until no more fuel will fit in, meaning it is brimmed.

Write down the mileage and litre amount, when you fill car again do the same thing, you can work out how many miles to litres, divide miles by litres my best on shell v-power is 520.7 miles divide by 50.60 litres = 10.29 then multi-ply by 4.5 (litres in a gallon) = 46.30 mpg average trip computer said i still had 60 litres left in tank, cant trust that.

My next refill i managed 513.3 miles and i put 50.86 litres in of tesco diesel, i have previously been running my car on shell v-power so lets see if tesco diesel is worth the 8p less per litre than shell. averaged 45.5 mpg this refill. at the moment best iv'e had on a run from somerset back to wales @ steady 70mph was 69mpg on the trip computer. at the moment my fuel needle is still on full and clocked 191.6 miles.

hope you can take anything from this long winded version, once you have done it for the first time, it'll be a breeze. happy driving.

I've not got a vRS, but I passed Bovington earlier today, google maps shows me as being 49.9 miles from lots of tanks :D

I can usually manage 500miles, but im doing alot of motorway miles at the moment so that might be helping.
