Fabia VRS Head Unit

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

Seen a head unit i really like and just wondering if anyone else has it or knows anyone that does?

Pioneer AVH-3300BT

And just wondering if it would fit well and look good in a vrs.

I Currently have just the standard CD player that comes with the car. Is it easy to remove this?

Thanks,

Carl

Thanks mate that looks good

Just wondering how well this one fits though because its larger than the usual head units. I'm quite new to this so bare with me!

So is there standard infills to fit different sizes of head units?

Thanks,

Carl

I have the AVH-3200DVD fitted and it went it perfectly. Didn't even need any additional wiring harnesses etc.

I've been really impressed with it.

Thats exactly what i wanted to hear!

I've ordered mine and cant wait to get it!

Am i right in thinking it comes with an external mic? Where did you mount yours? I'm thinking that modifying one of the blanks next to the asr for the mic would be a good idea but dont have a clue what size it is etc.

Cheers,

Carl

I didn't get the one with the bluetooth/ mic. I think I've seen someone mount the mic on the sun visor and run the cable behind the dash

I have the big bugger Pioneer 80BT double din with ipod and bluetooth - its the dogs ******!

I have a 3300BT in my SE, This thread has a couple of photos, including details on adding a reversing camera and rear USB connection.

The only additional parts I required were the genuine Skoda trim to go above the headunit, and a relay to bypass the handbrake connection.

I am also finding my Sony RM-X2S Remote Commander a superb wired remote.

Thanks for that mate that looks great.

Will definitely have to consider the reversing camera!

Not sure if i'm being blind or not but where did you put the mic for the hands free?

I considering modifying a blanking panel next to the ASR for it. Seems like a nice hassle free place to put it.

Cheers,

Carl

I put the mic. at the top of the A pillar on the drivers side.

I didn't use the mounting clip but wedged the little base plate between the A pillar trim and the headlining.

The cable was nice and long, I routed it behind the glove box, up the passenger side and along the top of the windscreen. I didn't want to route the cable near the steering column and instrumentation as I thought there was too much to break or get in the way.

The reversing camera is a nice gadget, although in wet weather it gets too dirty to use within 2 or 3 days of washing the car. But they can be bought on ebay for a few quid so why not!

Sorry to resurrect the thread again!

i got my AVH-2400BT todayyy :):) . They didnt have the 3200 in stock so i went forthis one instead.

Planning on fitting it on my lunch break today and i have a few questions

How dificult is it to route the mic to where it is in your picture? Whats invlolved with routing it behind the glove box too?

And whats involved in removing the old stereo? would the keys from the new one work or is it a hacksaw blade jobby? :D

Thanks,

Carl

Hey Carl, how did you get on?

might be a bit late now but in case you haven't fitted it yet I recommend:

*taking the glove box out (few screws above and below glovebox opening and unplug light) this will let you route the mic cable and give you restricted access to the side of the headunit (be careful not to "explode" glovebox light- apparently it falls apart easily)

*removing door seal up passenger side of windscreen. This will let you run the mic. cable up to the headlining.

*its also a good idea to remove the vents above the headunit, will enable you to manipulate the cables as you push the headunit into place. also lets you position any ipod adaptors etc in the small space above the headunit.

*finally, manipulate the car loom into bottom left of headunit aperture, routing it behind the plastic support at the back. this stops it getting in the way preventing the headunit going deep enough into the dash. (this assumes that the ISO connectors are in the same place as a 3300BT)

You will need tools to remove the Symphony unit, kenwood tools work, some people make them from junior hacksaw blades.

If you do the above, then routing the mic. cable will be easy. I can't remember but you might have to unclip the top of the A pillar cover trims. This just involves a firm tug into the car, you may be lucky but sometimes the trim comes off but the clip stays in place, then you have to get the clip out and re-fit it to the trim before you put it back together.

Whilst you are at it, you may want to consider fitting a reversing camera (they are dead cheap-see my description at the link above) and also fit a relay to bypass the handbrake input. Rear USB and aux inputs are possible if you don't mind taking your headunit apart.

A cooler place for a microphone would be hidden behind the grille on the interior light, assuming there's nothing there already on your model. In fact I believe there is a genuine VAG microphone designed to fit in that location.

Thanks for the replys,

Got the head unit in. Read a similar post and decided to go to halfords who popped the old one out for free!

Head unit was fairly hassle free, but its not storing any memory. Normally i understand this is a case of changing a power lead? i only got 1 lead with the unit  .

My plan is to take it back out at lunch and try get it working properly. Im fairly sure its very similar to the 3200 as it comes with the same manual  .

Cheers,

Carl

There's two wires you swap over, red and yellow. 99% of the time there are bullet connectors on the wires provided with the stereo so you just pull apart, and push each wire into the respective other. Make sure the blue wire is not connected to the car's wiring (or use it for an antenna booster). Connecting the blue wire to the car can cause issues, including damaging the diagnostic equipment Skoda dealers use.

Managed to get it in and working thanks!

Left the mic hanging out of a blanking panel atm didnt have time to take the glove box out.

Very pleased with the head unit! the green ilumination matches the standard dial lights perfectly! :)

Thanks for your help mate
