Are cheap coilovers better than good springs?

Featured Replies

Not going for massive lows been there done that with all sorts of coilovers but never springs, what would be better for a stiffer slightly lower ride? Cheap coilovers or eibach springs? As there about the same price,

Some would say that you will need to change the dampers if you just go for springs, as they are under a higher stress.

I'm sure more informed people will confirm this

As the springs are 25/30 mm the standard dampeners should be fine hopfully

From what I've read on here, it's a toss up. As neither are an optimum solution.

Springs only with worn dampers could get a tad bouncy and cause you to back off.

And recently I've read that cheap coilovers "don't like to work high".

Decent coilovers with some attention paid to spring rates maybe or matched springs and dampers. Either way you're looking at £550-£600 for parts rather than the £150 for springs.

Even if not optimal, if lowering 25mm removes the pitching under braking and gives a tauter feel, I'd say go for it.

I'm on the Eibach springs and dampers. Though they were a lot cheaper 5 years ago in a group buy.

I'm running the joms myself and have been for a long time now and I can't fault them, for the money they are unbelievable :) I've also seen reviews from people saying that each time they wind them down lower the ride just gets better and better too lol strange lol I'm dying to screw mine down a bit more but don't want to lose the undertray lol :)

+1 to the joms, supposedly the lower you go the better the ride, plus it's all brand new gear if you go for coil overs, brand new warranty etc plus there is much more room for adjustment in coilovers so you can have a play around with the set up

Sorry to thread jack lads, but can you tell me what the vrs drives like with the jom coilovers? I don't want to go mega low, probably a 40mm drop, but most importantly I would like the car to still remain comfy enough to use every day. What spring rates do they come with and what are the spring rates of the stock vrs springs?

Thanks
