  • Just wanted to say a big thanks for this tutorial. I'm about to replace the battery on my Fabia2 1.9 TDI Estate and most of this info seems to be totally relevant. My car even has the same original ba

Not a problem - I have got things sorted.

It is for the best that I have gone and bought a full socket set, extensions and a decent ratchet, as no doubt I will be needing them again one day.

For info the car's been absolutely fine in the 30 months since the battery swap. Started first time every time - never a hesitation even in the depths of winter. Well worth it!

I am glad to hear, hopefully mine will perform in a similar manner.

I just have to check the alternator next to see if that is charging as it should be.

Thanks again for the guide.

If you have alternator problems, it wouldn't surprise me if you knew about it due to power steering issues - the electric PAS on the Fabia is a huge current draw so if the alternator isn't up to scratch I think it would likely suffer?

Thanks for the write up. Just changed the battery on my '06 mk 1 VRs using your instructions! No problems!

I think my "4 year guaranteed battery" - see opening post - is failing after nearly three years. Yesterday it was admittedly cold but the starter churned somewhat after the car had only been standing less than 48 hours.

Does anyone have any experience of claiming a new one under guarantee? What do you have to prove?

Mines still going DRJ ;) Just showing a few signs of problems due to cold weather, (and recently, me being a muppet and leaving an interior glovebox light on) but its still going .....may be interesting to see how long I can keep this going, its already the 4 years

Would definitely get another Exide with the increased "CCA"

I've recently replaced mine as it was starting to become a bit tired having had it go flat on me a couple of times, so with the cold weather recently I decided it was time to replace.

I brought this one which doesn't have quite as much cca as the one it replaced but still perfectly adequate.

If I need to I'll be getting this one again as I commented on 4 years ago if this one fails ! Bargain at £62 ish and with the higher CCA, also an Exide.

I have 2 cars though so not quite so concerned and just trying to keep this maintained to see if I can keep it going longer.

It might even last another year if it reaches spring/summer!

Playing up a bit as a I don't use the car every day and don't really travel far/long enough to keep it charged which is part of the problem.

It's still going. It does always start first time - though sounds very reluctant doing so! I did put it on charge about a month ago but it's been fine since. Part of the problem is that my commute is only 2.5 miles and in the winter is in the dark so lights and quite likely wipers on too. I try to avoid using the HRW..

Blame Photobucket's ludicrous subscription charge for the disappearance
