vRS + Snow = ?

Featured Replies

Time to bust out the sledge/tea tray/inflatable tyre ring! :giggle:

Best advice is what my Dad always says to me in the Winter when he phones ........ emoticon-0118-yawn.gif

"Jon, unless it's an emergency, don't drive at all in the snow".

Of course, he's right emoticon-0105-wink.gif

it is staying where is....

looks like a bit of a thaw tomorrow followed by freezing overnight which should leave the roads in an interesting state for Monday morning!

Was tempted to pop out earlier to see what the winter tyres are like in the snow, but a quick check of the local traffic info made it out like there was chaos going on and all with barely an inch of snow by me!

I think it copes very well with the snow and ice.. When the car was one month old and there was black ice on the roads, it got me by surprise when it got me sliding sideways for about 8m in a junction. But then again I had my summer tires on. Now with proper nokian hakkapelita winter tyres it just spins a bit from first to second gear when in standstill.

Always in D, S mode is too hefty in my opinion. The dsg and traction control manages to do a great job, but takes a bit of trust in the beginning.

My vrs was a dream in the snow this morning. Was dreading my 20nile commute but i was actually quicker today as there was no traffic.

Maybe a different story tonight when it starts freezing though.

Winter tyres...No problem

Winter tyres...No problem

Ditto with winters if not pretty interesting !!

First time ive ever been stuck in the snow Im usually a snow master but my tyres were just too worn to get any grip + the tread pattern on the contis are useless.

Although with nearly 6 inches everything bar offroaders were stuck

But alas this morning i recovered my car

no snow here to test these winters out :(

having said that even if i have great traction ill prolly just get stuck behind some fanny who cant drive

i must say these winters have been great in the cold and wet roads, glad i didnt take them off during the winter heatwave

.....and the rubber compound is too hard in low temperatures

As everyone else mentions - Winter Tyres.

I didn't think there would be much difference but I went and spent £550 on all 4 corners. The difference is scary.

I live on a steep incline and was spinning everywhere on the Contis. Put the winters on and i'm driving up the road like the snow doesn't exist. :)

Well worth it.

I am tempted to get winter wheels and tyres next year but obviously as cheaply as possible. What's the smallest size wheel I can go for on a vRS and what's the cheapest tyre?

i bought 195/55/15 (same rolling circumf) at £50 a corner from mytyres, nankang sv2 or something

Had a play about in the snow, no problems whatsoever :)

I've got 15" steels, don't think anything smallr would fit over the callipers.

Wait until the summer and the price of winter tyres will drop as well as being more available. Best deals will be for rims and tyres together probably.

I like that green estate :)

Not moving my car at all - if you don't need to go out, don't :)

Dad can always get me in his Yeti :)
