Rolling road day

Featured Replies

Taking the Octavia for a session on the rollers today. Should be interesting what she does.

Will post my chart later for anyone who is interested

good luck! :)

Should do well with such a low temp

Have fun!

Clive - if it's a decent rolling road wouldn't they apply a correction factor anyway?

Well the old girl did well. Pulled 205bhp and 230lb/ft.

Had a bit of wheel spin bit it fuelled right and boosted dine

Is that all?

With what your car has should be higher shouldn't it? :wonder: Remap alone could of got to 205bhp,strange

Will be interesting to see what it makes with a front mount intercooler fitted. How much do they charge for the run and did you get any printouts?

Genuine question but from the signature I can't see what is on the car that would improve peak bhp? The hi flow cat would allow the turbo to spin up faster and probably make more torque mid range, but as I understand it, it's the turbo that limits the car as it can't supply enough air at the top end?

Same with the FMIC, while cooler intake temps could allow the map to advance timing further without detonation starting, unless it's been custom mapped for this it won't help much.

Mine has been on a dyno today and made 220.9bhp 208lbft at 12 psi

Just noticed from the sig you already have an FMIC... my bad! Is it one of those ebay ones?

Yea it is which is fine. The graphs look decent and the torque curve looks well. Fuelled perfect too.

The guy said it was wheel spinning so may have lost some. A long drive to Runcorn in snow and ice was never gonna let me grip

A good place just on the edge of Wigan Ive been to, proper old school garage. Took my Capri there to be tuned

They have a full dastek rolling road too. http://www.johnclarksonautos.com/

As for the FMIC, it won't make more power as such, but will help the engine make the power it's mapped for. When the inlet temp is cold, you will make the same power, no matter what ic you have, but if you have the standard one, after a bit of spirited driving, or a hot day, the inlet temps will go up, and power will be lost through timing pull etc. The FMIC is there to avoid this happening.

The exhaust too will make more power, even though the turbo limits the power, a less restrictive exhaust can't make it any worse. One restriction is better than 2.

I expected 210-220 to be honest but as I said I had wheel spin and maybe some faults.

However my torque seems quite good.

few pics. Cant see any faults in the graph......and the guy said it pulled well. Maybe im mappedfor torque and not bhp? not sure

wheel spins because the way they strap it down ! why have the rollers so you have to reverse on !!! strange way of doing it did they put them in wrong??

shouldnt be wheelspining rollers with your setup imo

to be fair a good map should see your setup 230 to 240 bhp

  • Author

Yea i mentioned why reverse in as usually it goes the other way......i only just squeezed in. I may speak to the guy that mappy this car and see what he can do.

What can i actually do though if its boosting fine and fuelling perfect?

Shame they didn't record the intake air temps then you could check if it was suffering from heatsoak (and know whether those eBay coolers work properly). Mine did 189 on one rolling road and 175 on a different one a year later which was down to a little split vac hose under the manifold.

I wouldn't worry too much about the figures though... every rolling road gives different figures... as long as you like how it drives that's the important thing.

Cheers mate yea car drives and pulls well...feels faster than 205bhp anyway. im probably going ko4 one dya soon anyway.......but may have to up the inter cooler size eh!

little vid too

have to say with the boost and that map it should really be a bit more but again rolling roads can be a pain lol

plus this cars had a brand new turbo so should be very strong

dont get why they would do that with there dyno !! also as you car isnt strapped down properly i would guess this will cause under readings etc etc

bum dyno is best

also that fan is way to small !!! and its directing air into the cooler what about the air filter lol

dont worry about those reading im sure on a proper setup it will be more

  • Author

ah that puts my mind at rest a bit haha.......i wasnt the second higest reading of the day behind a 500bhp renault 5....have a vid of that if anyone is bothered?

The guy knew what he was doing but has only just got the RR installed.

you can tell lol cars need to be straped down also need to have a good forced air feed to where the filters are located on whatever cars he is rolling and a much bigger fan unit would help !!

why have it that ay around is confusing!!

makes it a pointless rolling road though if the figures will never be any where close lol

  • Author

his larger fan was sat at the side un plugged!! but he was running small cars all day....i was the only vag car and the largest. still ran the 2nd highest power

  • Author

oh on a side note too my friends clio 172 ran almost standard power on a standard engine.....if his result was right would mine be different? im gussing cos its N/A and smaller the fan gave it the right air and no spin...where as mine comes on boost aggressivly and intake it behind my head light
