Diamondbrite & Zymol Carbon Wax

Featured Replies

Last night I spent an age washing my car zymol car wash, I use the HD-Cleanse to prepare the car for the carbon wax which I applied. My car is a week old and looks fantastic after my efforts last night.

A friend has just given me a Diamondbrite kit with stage 1 (pre-glaze) and stage 2 (glaze).

1. Can I just wash my car again with the Clear Autobathe and then apply the Diamondbrite kit?

2. Once I apply the kit can I still apply coats of wax when I fancy?

3. Is the Diamondbrite kit going to give me better results than the wash, cleanse and wax process I used last night?

4. Where can I buy the Diamondbrite conserver if I do use the kit?

I do not waht to just use the kit because I have it and I am delighted with the Zymol products. What extra does the Diamondbrite kit give me?

Sorry for the questions, I am a real amatuer when it comes to car care.

Kev

Treated my car a week after collection in sept 04 with diamondbrite stage 1 and 2 and even now the rain beads and falls off the bodywork like it's seen a ghost :D

Super stuff, and i still have approx 1/2 left for another coating later in the spring

Once it is on do I need to wax my car? Is this better than waxing?

Oh, and can I put it on over my coat of wax?

Once it is on do I need to wax my car? Is this better than waxing?

I have DiamondBrite. The finish is good and I don't bother waxing, but there will be 'purists' here who prefer wax. Whether the result is better or not, DiamondBrite is certainly less labour intensive. Just bung a capful of the conserver in a bucket with the shampoo. Rinse and dry off with a chamois or microfibre cloth, and that's it.

As I am getting a new car tomorrow, and will be applying the DiamonBrite myself, I would also like to know if Stage 1 can go on top of the wax the dealer will have applied.

Diamondbrite is a paint sealant. It is supposed to elimate the need to polish.

So to answer your questions:-

1. The paintwork needs to be spotless & stripped of all previously applied wax.

2. Wax can be applied afterwards. I use a small amount of Meguiars Quick Wax every 5-6 weeks.

3. Diamondbrite will seal in the "shine", so over time it will still look good without the need to polish.

4. You can probably buy the conserver on e-bay. I got he full kit on a group buy from another forum. This included stage 1 & 2, conserver, shampoo & interior protector. Didn't really think the shampoo was doing a good job, so I use Zymol Auto Cleaner instead.

The paintwork needs to be spotless & stripped of all previously applied wax.

What strips the wax off? Stronger than normal shampoo? I just read this at http://www.clean-image.co.uk/paintsealant/caution.htm:

"Paint sealants are designed to chemically bond to your paintwork. For this reason they need to be applied directly to bare paintwork. If applied over the top of wax, they will not bond and will only break down and disintegrate as the wax evaporates. For this reason, professional valeters prepare the car before application, using a chemical wash which removes all waxes, oils, silicones and road traffic film."

Is it worth putting a second coat on as you are some 6/12 months latter . Does one need to do any prep work . Liek you i had the diamondbright as new sept 2004 , and would put a second coat on myself if it is safe and does one just followe the stage 1 and 2 process with no bad effects .

A good quality paint cleanser or clay bar will do the trick.

I have been browsing at http://www.thedetailingbible.com, where I found 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner was recommended. I haven't located it in the UK yet.

My car looks great with the fresh coat off zymol wax. If I am happy to keep up the work of cleaning and waxing should I bother with the Diamondbrite at all?

No. Just put the DiamondBrite sticker on a window to keep the person who gave it to you happy :)

If you're happy with the results then that's all that counts!

It would mean stripping off what you've already spent time & effort on anyway!
