SQUEEKY RIGHT FRONT BRAKES ON MK 1 FABIA

Featured Replies

Hi

A few hundred miles ago I fitted new front suspension arms with Cupra bushe, along with drilled and grooved front discs. The right hand front had started squeeking like a demented mouse when I turn the wheel to the right, I assume its the pads, they were new, but could it be anything else, when I touch the brakes, it stops.

Any help will be gratefully received. :(

I had same problem. Garage fixed it for me on service. Dunno how i did it cos everything went back together fine after i took them apart. But one of the guide bolts on the calipers i had screwed back in at a slight angle apparently. Squeeking was driving me nuts and only time it stopped was when i braked. Its been 5 month now and not a peep from them.

Mine did this, car up, wheel off, pads out, clean the stainless pad guides on the caliper(they simply pull out), clean the tabs on the ends of the pad that locate in the caliper (I gave them a gentle file to remove paint/dust/crud/etc) litely smear copper slip on the back of the pads, reassemble, jobs a good 'un.... no more squeaks!

Thanks for the great answers, will have a go this weekend, will do both sides as I have to check the rear washer connection as well!

Thanks again

Loads of copper grease! That's your answer.

Make sure all the carriers etc are scrubbed really well with a wire brush and smother them in copper grease.

The common thing is that under the little stainless steel inserts the brake pad carrier rusts and bubles up which pushes into the pads and stops them from moving.

As said above put plenty of the greese on the back of the pads too.

Yep that's what I do when fitting pads. I have never had squeaking pads yet.

Obviously make sure you don't get any on the pad or disc surface.
