wipers not working

Featured Replies

Hi there. i have a 2007 Vrs and the front wipers wouldn't work this morning. I have checked the fuse. They weren't frozen onto the screen. Any thoughts before I start taking things apart?

Jonathan

You definately checked the right fuse? Mine did the same thing a few weeks ago. Fuse number 15, 10A.

Sorry if this doesn't help! :(

+1, 4 down 3 left? lol Didnt I see somewhere to replace for a 15A as the old models were that etc..?

Yes it's 4 down and the 3rd row... I would upload a pic but on my phone!

Well ....now that you mention it!

It was the fuse - I hadn't noticed that the picture of the fuse layout in the owners manual is the LHD version with everything back to front! i would have thought Skoda would have been efficient enough to reverse the image and change the numbers for RHD models.

Anyway they are now working again.

my wife's 1.4 16v has develped an intermitant fault on the front wipers,if they are turned on under normal usage the won't move sometimes,on any position,if however the key switch is turned on with the wipers in any of it's on positions the will run untill turned off,but will not restart without the key switch being run through off to on again, the fault is pointing to an ecu problem. The fuses have been replaced ,motor assy and connection checked, anyone got any other ideas?

Sounds like the wiper relay 377 under the dash above the pedals, the contacts wear out,it would only affect the wiper on slow or intermittant or one wipe. cheers - Stuart

thanks for the reply, this relay is marked 477, and i have already substuted this item, and still have the same symptoms

here we are 8 months down the line, i still can not find this fault. The skoda garage said yes there was a relay, this arrived and after three days of looking for it's location i still could not find it! big arguements then insued, the garage then had the car, they also drew a blank!!. They then issued the car with a new MOT ! how the hell does that work!

So now i still have a fault, i want to sell the car, so it's back to see if i can trace this fault as i do not want to pass this car on in its pressent condition.

It would appear that the wiper controls run through the master ECU located above the drivers pedal box,so this is where i am going to start

My sister had problem with wipers not working on her Audi A3 turned out to be an intermittent fault with the bonnet open sensor if the ecu thinks the bonnet is open it stops the wipers working

well , in all the time i've been looking at this problem i can't find any switch or sensor in the bonnet area, and yes i did exactly this yeterday, have another look, but the problem was not there , all was working correctly

As strange as this may sound, it might be worth disconnecting the rear wiper motor to see if the problem at the front goes away.......

I had a peculiar fault were my Fabia front wipers would randomly switch themselves on for the odd minute or two. This carried on for about 8 months until it magically fixed itself when I changed out the rear wiper motor. It turned out that water had penetrated the rear wiper motor electronics and was causing interference with the front wiper electronics.

So have a look at the rear screen washer, it should be squirting water in a single direction up the screen. In my case the water direction was moving side to side with the wiper, a sign that the internal metal waterpipe has snapped.

thanks DC i've already been there and rebuilt the rear wiper motor for exactly that reason, but i shall experiment by disconnecting the rear motor, good idea thanks

Check the Wiper Linkage. This may have seized up, which depending on the weather etc may sometimes freed - other times not.

I've stipped and rebuilt both wiper units over the past year ,thinking like yourself that the fronts maybe getting a bit tight with age,but if a high current is drawn, then this normally results in a blown fuse. Thanks for your input
