vRS Brakes Cooked. Car away on a Low Loader

Featured Replies

So like i've always said, the brakes on the vRS are scrap. Last night confirmed this.

I sense a Porsche/R32 setup on the horizon.

Best of luck getting it sorted! I feel your frustration!

Hope your dealer sorts you out!

Where did you get car with warranty? They will be very nice if they decide to cover cooked brakes on a used car! Good luck keep us up to date. LOL you didn't used to own a Mk1 Furby VRS did you? :giggle:

If the pistons have come out that far I bet the pads were gone. I bet they try to get out of it by saying you left the handbrake on.

Exactly how 'spirited' do you have to be driving on public roads to cook your brakes in 10 minutes? :wonder:

Sounds like you got what you deserve ;)

Jesus sounds scary. Had fade on track a few times with poor pads and old fluid.

Hope they sort your calipers out!

Do you not use your gears to slow down

Sort of sounds like the rear brakes were partially or fully stuck on already doesn't it? I would have thought otherwise the sort of agro you would have to give the rear brakes to make them fail would have had the front brakes in real trouble long before - but then I don't know what you mean by "spirited driving"?

Rear pads have only been in since i got the car in November, plenty of life in them.

You were on a spirited drive. Why were you using your brakes? They only slow you downemoticon-0124-worried.gifemoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

Could the pistons in the calipers have been corroded solid with all the salt on the road?

I think the problem is the fact that rear discs are solid. I mean Why?

My Mk1 vRS had vented rears for flips sake.

Possibly, fair bit of salt corrosion on the insides of the calipers.

Never mentioned public roads! Maybe i live next door to a track.

Regardless of what you think ie: i got what i deserve, brakes should not do this after such little abuse.

I have never experienced anything as bad as this even in my competition cars. On occasions the competition cars discs have turned blue with heat and the calipers have been fine. Granted the rubber seals melt, but the pistons don't seize FFS.

Your screwed if you live in a greenhouse after that one :p

It's amazing how many people on here live next door to tracks.......I never knew there were that many tracks :S

you do now :p who not pop off into Cadwell Park today Brimma since its so close :p

I've never had a problem with the brakes on mine and i have cooked some in my time.....Would like to know how you can drive in such a way to cook your brakes with weather such as we have had (ie damp or frozen roads) whether it be on a track or not.

Like how the OP has been edited to miss all the details out..... :dull:

The brakes on my vRS are fantastic, swapping from the Scout back into the vRS often confirms this as I stop 30 feet short of the end of our road :giggle:

Yep - you can always just pop along to your local track unannounced and say "do you mind me having a blitz around your track for nothing to see if I can cook my brakes"

Or is that just me being cynical again?

I have always defended the OE vRS set up, but since fitting S3 fronts I can see they are not as good as I thought, that said, they never failed to stop me when required and they are now fitted on swmbo's Golf GT.

Out of interest, has the original post been edited to remove certain content, because from what I can see it only says about the brakes cooking, nothing about the piston or driving excessively fast????
