Buying advice Vrs cr 170 Please

Recommended Posts

Hi All, I've just joined the forum, at long last!

I'm off to look at a red 58 plate Octavia estate VRS CR 170 on Saturday. High mileage but full Skoda history every 10K so should hopefully be ok. Looking forwards to picking it up and the long drive home! Already got a Fabia VRS TDi PD but that's now the wife's. Was looking at V70 but after the Fabia I knew I had to go for the Octavia!

Any advice on what to look out for upon inspection of my new car?

Welcome to Briskoda!

When you check the service book for the 10K stamps note the dealers that have performed the work and give them a call.

They should have on their system all of the car's history in terms of in and out of warranty repairs and fixes which often offers a good insight into a car's life.

High mileage would suggest a lease or company owned motorway eater, however the 10K service intervals suggest a private owner, understanding who owned the car before you will also help you to understand a little more about what it's been up to for the last four years.

Remember that on it's fourth birthday it will require a cambelt which can be a pricey service, I'm guessing it'll be due this year if it hasn't had one already (due to mileage) so figure this into the deal if possible.

Take some pictures and start a new thread, then you'll get plenty of responses. Good luck

Cheers, some good stuff there.

Last service was in September 2011 where the belts were changed so hopefully doesnt need doing for a while.

It's from an independent performace / specialist dealer so fingers crossed should all be ok. Will be definately worth a call to the past dealers to find out what fixes if any have been done. I guess the sawtoothing / DPF issues will need further investigation, but hopefully previous servicing dealer can give me a low down on these things?

Will have to probably give it a clean before I take some pictures as i'll sadly :) have to drive it 100 miles down from Scotland, so bound to get filthy. Probably due to it being based in Scotland would explain the high motorway miles....

CR diesels can be had under £10k, got mine 58 plate with 59k on the clock yesterday. All good so far.

It's my second VRS with a 4 year brake with an endlessly reliable but very boring 320d in the middle.

I am having a lot of love for tr skoda at the moment. So much more pull and space than the BMW.

If you don't mind me asking how much did you get the car for, I'm struggling to find a lot around within budget that hasn't been to the moon and back, really don't think I want to go for the PD if I'm honest.

Must admit I have also considered a 320d as well, although I don't like the interior on the E91 it's very bland and the seats don't seem up to much, how did you find the ride compared to the VRS as I know a lot complain about it being quite firm especially with the run flats ?

Having just purchases a new vrs Octavia diesel its reassuring to see folk opting for a skoda after considering some other really good cards. I must admit to letting my head rule my heart over the car, I really like car, I don't think I love it. Like I might a passat cc that I really wanted, but could not stretch to.

Have my 2007 vrs pd a month now and love it,only problem was exhaust pressure sensor but was a cheap fix for the updated part,

I had the money for a 2008 cr but if I'm totally honest the cr didn't do much for me and felt quiet slow again the pd!

I'll prob keep it 2 years and then buy a 2010 cr if I have too ;(

The cr feels slower as its not as punchy as the pd, but it is quicker, quieter and has a more petrol like delivery.

Yep, my 0-60 time in my sig reflects that (unless you speak to lol).
