Better the devil you know?

I'm in a dilema!

The other half racks up 300 miles a week on our Fabia commuting to work and back and it has just clicked over 114,000 miles.

At present she could reduce that usage by taking my Ibiza instead.

However it's 5 speed box makes it pretty awful to cruise in and being a 2 litre petrol the fuel costs would out weigh any saving in maintenance on the Fabia.

So another PD130 would be the ideal solution, meaning we could swap cars whenever and commute in either as necessary.

However the only cars i can afford would be a pretty leggy early Ibiza Sport - think 52 plate and 95,000 miles.

Leaving us owning 2 high mileage PD's rather than a high mileage diesel and a high mileage petrol with a drink problem.

But we'd hopefully end up with an older but less well travelled car, that was cheaper to tax, cheaper to fuel, and idential if not a little cheaper to insure.

The only fly in the ointment is that i really dont wanna end up with 3 cars but shifting the GTi could prove difficult and mean i'm exceeding short of funds until i get rid of it.

I've found a perfect local PD Ibiza that i can afford (just) am i massively over thinking this? Is that a win win win situation?

Shoudl I be giving the guy a deposit already?

Sorry lost me on this one?

Is there a question somewhere in this.

Why would putting a lot of miles on the Fabia be a problem.

Yeah, diesel saving alone is worth it. Jam the 2.0 on eBay for 99p and see what happens!

Sod the miles. Fact of life.

That way you end up with two cars the same size.

Thinking slightly laterally... Considered Fabia estate or an Octavia or a Leon instead, or even a Passat?

J.

What's the problem with the fabia doing all the mileage? As long as its regularly serviced and well maintained it'll continue to rack up the mileage reliably for years to come. And what's with all the seat c**p this is a skoda forum! lol

Yeah sorry i started ok but ended up on a bit of a ramble :D

I think i'm just looking for someone to reassure me it's a good idea

Why would putting a lot of miles on the Fabia be a problem.

I guess it's not but the suspension already feels knackered and as the miles go up i guess the risk of expired parts becomes larger.

That was kind of the decision i had reached but guess i needed to hear it from someone else.

I did look at Leon's or Golf's but larger cars = larger purchase price + larger insurance

As above nothing really it'd jsut be helpful to have something as inexpensive to share the load

If i could afford antoher Fabia i'd do it in a heart beat

I'd just run the fabia into the ground.

If she's doing motorway miles the car could see 200k without major problems.

300 miles a week isn't that bad. I used to do 600, in a clio :dull:
