dump valve help

Featured Replies

i have just fitted a baileys dump valve to my octavia vrs mk1 (not recommended i no but thought i would try it) and it seems like it is dumping twice.

when i release the accelerator it will flutter and then you get the usual tschhh but if i change gear fast you dont even reach the tschhh. this cant be normal or good for the car can it? is there anyway around this without removing the dump valve or not?

Best way of keeping the dump valve is to remove the turbo, only problem is that you'll loose power. The only other option is to fit a recirculating valve that is correct for the engine lol

best bet would be take it off and put the standard one back on!,these engines hate atmos dump valves, also how/where have you fitted it?

Put the standard one back on.

i have blanked off the hole on the intake pipe and fitted it to the pipe from the exhaust and ye i think i might have 2 just like the extra noise lol

I have a Forge 007P which I fitted in reverse a while back. It makes more noise plus you get a weird "ding!" sound (which everyone here hates  )

ignore him he's weird! Lol

If you want more noise, sell the car and get a Nissan or something lol

lol i love the octavia its probly the best car to drive i have owned (and iv owned a few) i have heard that it is possible to get the car mapped to run an atmospheric is this true and can it be done during a remap?

Or why not sell the Bailey DV and just buy a cold air intake, that will give you the noise even with the standard DV.

You'll get fed up with the noise after five minutes LOL

The only reason you can't use an atmos. dump valve is because of the MAF sensor. It measures how much air enters the engine and adjusts the fuel mixture to suit. However, if you put an atmos valve on it, you lose some of the air that has been 'accounted for', so it upsets the mixture a bit.

I've heard of 1.8t's being mapped to not use a MAF sensor (use the MAP pressure sensor on IC instead, like old cars used to use) which means you an use a atmos valve, but I don't think many places would do it for you.

right i think i have found out why its dumping twice. its because im not creating enough vacumm to open the dv. i have now fitted a p007 and it is still fluttering which is obv not good because that means air is flowing the wrong way across the turbo (i think). i have removed my n249 and my pipe set up is now hose from dv to t peice with boost gauge on and another pipe to another t peice which one pipe goes to the inlet and the other to the fuel pressure reg. is this correct and any ideas what i might be doing wron or what is going wrong??

Read up on the guides on Robs website WWW.pimpmyskoda.co.uk. His DV is not fitted in the same place as yours but the principles are still the same.

When you fit a boost gauge you just put a t-piece into the vac pipe going to the fuel pressure regulator and then a hose off that t-piece to the gauge.

If you have no N249 there should be a vac hose direct from the manifold to the top of the DV to open it.

Finally what have you done with the old DV? Have you blanked off the hole in the intake pipework where it sits?

I have basiclly the same set up as you, i run a baileys DV26 atoms piston dump valve with the return pipe blocked off.

i have a CAI and have had this set up for over 40k miles.

the car chatters like a hoe on speed and doesn't effect the performance in any way what so ever.

on my manifold i have 2 vac hose pipes 1 i use to run the fuel pressuer reg n dump valve and im not sure what the other 1 is for can i remove this and fit the dump valve hose straight to this? and also yes i have blanked off the intake hose.

i have 1 for the fuel reg and one for the d/v and boost gauge.

didn't want to tap into the fuel reg due to fears of any leak causing a drop in fuel pressure.

and do you get like a chatter then a tschh or just the one because it sounds to me like mine is coming back through the air filter befor the dv opens. which kind of defeats the object of a dv.

just a solid chatter.

have you got any pics of your set up see what i might be doing wrong?

Chatter from the valve or the turbo? When the turbo does it its usually stalling

The Bailey DV26 (if thats what you've got occyoccyoccy) has a very hard spring in it to try and stop air leaking in through it at idle - it was developed as an attempt at a fully atmos valve that would work on the 1.8 20vT and the stiff spring and twin piston operation was what was supposed to make it work.

So when the valve opens to start off with most of the boost can't get out the valve and is coming back through the turbo (giving you the chatter) then when the valve opens a bit more the boost can get out so you get the "whoosh".

And you're correct in saying boost going back through the turbo is not a good thing, eventually the shaft will get loads of play in it which will either wreck the oil seals or damage the blades.

well im going to guess the turbo as it sounds like it is coming through the air filter.

Maybe I'm missing something here but where is the pipe going into that DV that is carrying the boost to be released?

that dv is on the wrong way round it is essentially useless as the air is coming back past the turbo to get to it. it should be located on the exhaust side where your other pipe was and you need to blank off the inlet hole which is where it is now.

that DV is either not connected to anything or its in the wrong hole?

thats where the std dv sits and the air goas into that hole not out of it. the dv should be on its side if its in that position.

whose is that?

I used one of them, Ive had lots of DV's but that was the worst, even the Forge RS(It looked smaller in the pics) was better. Mine worked ok and as it should but gave me a really rough idle? also on high rpm it leaked. and on a cruise for some reason it went to limp mode a few times. mine did dump well when over 2.5k and did have a slight chatter on low rpm
