Finally got round to fitting my Forge Strut Brace and Eibach springs.

What a difference!

I was a bit concerned about making the ride too stiff but the springs on standard dampers has done exactly what I wanted them to.

i.e lower the car and make it look a bit better and stiffen the ride and reduce roll without making it too stiff for motorway/long journeys.

Took the car out for a quick spin down the new stretch of A21 (lamberhurst bypass if any one knows i) - had so much fun I did it twice, having the tyres squealing around both round abouts and a massive grin on my face.

I think the bloke who had broken down thought he was going mad when he saw me go past for the second time. Either that or he thought i was mad!

Only small gripe is that the Strut Brace doesn't fit too well and was rubbing on the engine cowling - which meant much of yesterday afternoon was spent modifying it (i.e cutting a chuck out of it) at least now it probably weighs a little less!!!!!!

Also not sure how easy it is to get to the air filter. Is this the same with the Seat/Momo brace?

Anyway, hope the pictures have worked!

Has lowering made the ride any more or less choppy? the standard setup soaks up the bumps well but i find mine jiggles on uneven roads, i wondered if your new springs help or make no difference cheers.

Be warned - if it is the same as mine-as I expect it is, it will knock/rub on the engine cover!

I've heard that the adjustable strut braces aren't all that good and have the tendancy to lose stiffness which messes up the handling, this may just be in some cases though so you'll have to give it time to see if this is true for yours. How much did you pay for the forge strut brace?

Personally I'll go for Seat ones and spray it Skoda Green first, then get the dealer to fit it

The Seat Sport Strut Brace was easy to fit IMO and I must of been lucky as I have had no rubbing and I can still get my green air filter out when it needs a clean without having to remove the strut brace , whilst we are on topic where do we get the lower front strut brace from?

I think Jabba do the lower one, cant remember, iirc they make the front end 40% stiffer and cost in the region of 340+ vat, Graeme had one fitted...

Lots of different makes, but Forge and Momo (as used by Seat) are common. Their purpose is to keep the suspension as parallel as possible during cornering. They're basically a steel/aluminium bar which bolts onto the top/bottom of the struts to achieve this, although the lower ones require the sub-frame being dropped to fit I think....

I only have the front upper one, but it does make the steering feel a bit more direct. I believe Faboka has all of them on his and he said it's made a big difference.
