Maxi-dot V Standard Setup

Featured Replies

Hello

Just another q on the Skoda specs

If one does not have maxi-dot installed, does that mean that they also do not have a trip computer ; showing fuel consumption etc. ?

i.e does a car without maxi-dot show real time fuel consumption, average fuel consumption etc. ?

No, a non-maxidot will still have the trip computer, but the display is nowhere near as nice. Also, with maxidot, you get a lot more functions, including audio and navigation display, and a nice diagram of which door is open rather than just a single warning light.

Well worth the extra, and even worth retrofitting if getting a used one without. My original hatch has a retrofit one,and I'm in the process of getting my new estate done as well.

Thanks very much for the info Mike

I'd be interested in Retro fitting - How much does that cost roughly?

As I understand it my current display takes up about 1/2 of the alloted space, so I'm assuming the Maxi-Dot would fill that whole gap?

This is how you can tell the difference on a pre-facelift Octavia...

However, on the latest facelift Octavia non-Maxidot cars still get the nicer display but with reduced functionality.

And just on the " standard " pic there. Is this is the area that would also show the real time fuel consumption etc ?

The facelift trip uses the whole display area in the Maxidot photo but doesn't include the car outline. Pages 18 and 19 of the Owners Manual have pictures showing the multifunction display.

If you could get one from the scrappy's,what would you need???

If you could remove the whole dash clock assembly I believe the mileage can be corrected to your own

I know you would also need the column stalk anything else

Depending on what your car has fitted you will probably need the steering wheel controller as well.

Don't forget you will need someone to read the SKC off both clocks before they can be coded.

I believe it's only Shark performance that can fit the second hand units,

I'm not sure that's true is it? They can't be the only place that can fit these?!

OK maybe a bit more accurate would of been "to our knowlegde it's only Shark performance that can fit the second hand units"

of course there is no reason why another VAG independent specialist (providing he has the knowledge and correct equipment to read and code everything) cannot do this, but to date Shark seem to be the only people to have done it.

Skippy, there was a thread on here months ago about Browny37 who had a full maxidot and cruise fitted by Shark to his Classic spec Octavia, and it involved changing steering column controller as well as the cluster install. Will try to find the link.

Here's Dan's maxidot thread, vRS clocks inc maxidot fitted to a Classic spec Octavia

I'm thinking of getting this done but finding it difficult to find the octavia vrs clocks. Would you just be able to change the LCD display? Mine already has a trip computer - avg mpg, inst mpg etc.

Yes Maxidot is just the LCD display, you don't need a whole new instrument cluster.

Sweet, thanks for that, might make things a little easier for me

Thanks for that link. i can't justify just over £300 to be honest. If I could pick up the parts second hand, even get hold of just the Maxidot unit and replace what I've got it would be better. I'll keep looking. I'm assuming I can use the LCD from a VW??

Hmm, not sure if a VW display will work in a Skoda? It will however be backlit in red which may look a little out of place with the green dash illumination...

Newer highline displays are the same white on black as the Octavia and don't have the (IMHO) horrible red backlight. Not sure whether they are compatible though - someone with ETKA might be able to answer that...
