  • Well one of the issues is almost certainly the fact that you have a "Canbus" kit. This uses a large resistor to "load" the system to stop the bulb out warning being an issue. There is considerable evi

If my memory serves me correctly this is what I got done.:

Open Controller 9.

Open Long Coding Helper.

Activate 'Bi-Xenon with shutter' (Put tick in box).

Close LCH

Click 'Do It'.

Clear any fault codes.

Thats exactly what I've been told to do! Alam - I think you're wrong with respect to the coding.

Hi all,

Wondering if you could help me?

I have an Aussie spec VRS TDI and have tried installing 2 different HID kits but each time I turn the headlight switch on I get a bulb warning light and of course no headlights.

The two kits I have tried are:-

1/ an older kit from my Subaru days, and

2/ a new 55w canbus kit with slim line ballast....each using 4300k globes.

I have been reading and contributing to this post http://www.vwwaterco...html#post803056 to try to sort my problem out but have not had any luck.

Can anyone suggest what else I could do or is it a fact I have one very stubborn beastie!?

Cheers......

You need vcds to turn off the bulb out test

If my memory serves me correct then this is what i did.

I fitted a set of NON canbus HID's

Is your one a FL model?

Have a look and see if this works?

The method I Posted is what was done to my FL and it worked perfect

*You'r HID kit does work, yes??"

Go into Controller 9.

Activate the long-coding helper.

Turn ON 'Bi-Xenon without shutter'.

Turn OFF 'cold diagnostics'

Turn OFF 'diagnostics low beam'

Close helper.

Click on 'Do it'.

Go back to controller and clear any fault codes.

Exit.

Hi Freedom, interesed in this thread as im looking to get a set for my 2009 facelift octavia; ive fitted a number of these kits in the past but not on the new hella clip.

Can you post a photo of the back of your headlamp showing the projector lamp backing and the H7?

The headlamps are Hella from the Czech republic, the fixing method used across most of Hellas range so should be workable....let me see the picture and ill see what i can do or help?

Cheers, Steve

Turn OFF 'cold diagnostics'

Turn OFF 'diagnostics low beam'

Exit.

I can't find these options....should they be in the same 'Byte' as the 'Bi-Xenon without shutter' option?

BTW...My car is a 1Z if this helps??

Not an option on latest models.

xenon kits are now a mot fail (well auto level/wash part) so it will not pass your mot test

take the out re-fit old bulbs pass mot then refit xenon kit i hear you say, but now they are an mot fail the police/vosa can stop you and inpound your car and give you a nice big fine

How on Earth are the Police going to spot cars with projector headlamps and a Xenon upgrade (that give the exact same beam pattern) as opposed to OEM HID ?

They would have to have check points pulling in all Xenon/HID equipped vehicles at night in order to check under the bonnet. Never going to happen. :smirk:

I absolutely know that the OEM units have a 'self level/clean' system, but the speed that these adjust the angle of the beam on a hill (up or down) just isn't quick enough for the beam not to sometimes dazzle other drivers. I've had 3 previous cars with HID OEM fitted, I know, I was flashed many times.

Be more concerned with the driver that doesn't care about lights at all. The ones who have lights out, missing, misaligned (far more annoying than anything else) or the vehicles that have nowhere near the light output to see where they're going on poorly lit or non lit roads.

You are correct Jonny Boy, I think the only exception to your statement would be if the driver decided to fit extreme colured bulbs such as 10000K or 12000k (or possibly 8000k)...however there are D1, D2, D3 and D4 aftermarket 'coloured' bulbs too so even if you had OE xenon fitted you could still change the colour temperature!

I drove a 307 round with an aftermarket kit for over 5 years, the colour was very low (4500k from memory) so to oncoming drivers was white with a tiny hint of pink.....the car passed 5 MOT's with them in and had maybe 1 peson flash me every year.

The police as you say are more interested in bulb failure and mis alignment!

I really don't think it's a problem with projector lenses. It's reflectors that really don't work with them! Even with a normal halogen bulb you get a certain extent of light scatter.

I have been flashed many times before with normal lights/bulbs in all sorts of cars (all had very well aligned headlights as poorly aligned lights are a pet hate of mine!). The people flashing you will be the night-blind ones that get dazzled by any glimmer of light!

The best thing I ever did to comabt people with badly adjusted lights is an auto dimming rear view mirror! lol

Hope you get the lights fitted and the clip sorted. As to why they felt the need to re-invent the wheel with that!

Yeah, spot on. I have 6000k (as in my signature link) Philips HIDs. They are absolutely awesome and worth every penny. Look no further for a great upgrade to your projectors.

My HIDs shake over pot holes, mine is pre FL. Feel a bit better now that other peoples do too.

Is it worth getting an adapter for my bulb holders? Would that stop the shaking?

The bulb holders will not help.

There is play in the projector lamp carrier frame to levelling motor/adjuster posts....tis one of those things im afraid!

Skoda have always told me the leveling motor had gone. Want to charge me £150 each for new lamp fittings as you can't get the motor separate.

Anyone know of a good breakers that can get me a set of lamps cheap?

yours are halogen right?...are both headlamp motors dead?

My pre FL has 43k bulbs original fit xenon's are 41k so white light and look exactly the same, I have stuck on the washer covers so they really do look original now, even fooled my dealer till he opened the bonnet

They said it was the teeth, they will only adjust to just above the legal requirement. Skoda said it wouldn't pass an MOT but 3 months afterwards they passed it, must be borderline. I think the motor is ok as you can see the lamp adjust up and down just won't go high enough.

Not sure how much of a pig it is to get the motor out to replace.

Now that's what I call forward thinking =) Where did you get the washer covers?

Just got from the dealer and cut off the clips. About 7 pounds then I painted

Might have a go at doing that myself =)
