Rear Wash pipe broken at door hinge

Featured Replies

Hello Guys and Galls,

This is a cautionary tale about the rear washer on a Roomster, the washer failed and after some investigation involving removal of trims to track the water back to the leak, it was found that the pipe was snapped at the bendy hinge at the top of the back door, has anyone else had this and how was it fixed if you have, there is no room or spare pipe at the break and its taped into the loom, suggestions anyone ?

You could try joining it with a bit of brake pipe.

Thanks Fordfan,

I have been trying to think of something about the right diameter to fit inside the pipe, brake pipe might fit the bill just right, there is little spare movement in the pipe near the break and its near the joint in the door, if that does not work I may order the appropriate part from Skoda, the pipe starting from the rear window jet to the joint above the boot floor , its the most awkward place to repair and I am surprised its broken in the first place.

Thanks again

Mick G

I'd think that if your screenwash solution was a little weak and the water froze in the pipe, then opening and closing the boot could have been enough to cause some issues.

That or it could have frozen sufficiently to actually rupture a pipe.

It's worth making sure the screenwash solution is strong enough for your needs.

Thanks for the reply, I called at Rainworth Skoda and they were very helpful, it appears its a mechanical fracture caused by the pipe being too taught inside the rubber concertina boot between the back door and car body, there was no spare pipe what so ever, the mixture of screen wash was fine and I have not had a problem with it freezing this winter, the break was between the ribs of the pipe and not longitudinal, if you flex something back and forth long enough like opening and closing the door it will break like this. Skoda sell a repair kit which slides over the pipe and has an O ring you put over the end of the pipe and it clicks together, you do this on the other end of the pipe as well and the two ends just clip together, problem solved.

If I could figure out how to post a photo I would, anyway its wait and see if its successful long term but the repair fitting has given it about an inch longer pipe than I had.
