Got this horrible Drone Noise

Featured Replies

Well the Octy pd 130 with now 140k miles , has developed a horrible droning noise from the front end , noticed after the last 250 miles , Not going to risk another 100 miles returnn trip to work tomorrow so going into the garage for a check up . Was thinking its either the Front bearings or Drive shaft . Came on mid week with no prior trouble , was trying to take front wheels off today to have a look , but the previous service garage on fitting new discs and pads on the front back in september , obviously did the Nuts up far far to tight . Will give an update when i have the news . !!!

Well the garage had the car all last week , diagnosed a failed Nearside Bearing and the Trackrood and track rod end . . Only idea of both going is that i had done a pot hole at some point . Off side seekms fine at the momment . Odd they only put it down as an Amber , if it had been at a mot stage , and not a failure .

why did they have the car all week? wheel bearing and trackrod etc should be about 4 hours tops even on a bad day. Glad its sorted for you though, bearing drone can be depressing on a long journey :D

To diagnose would be 30 mins work at most!

I put it in to the garage on the monday , and was then off to Edinburgh for the rest of the week , It was a number of phone calls as i have a warranty direct policy , and WD said i had done too many miles and not covered ie only cover to 100k , although i have had the auto DD and policy for the last 3 years . Got them too agree to do it in the end , but now they are moving me to a policy that just covers engine and gearbox up to 160k only . They will not cover beyound that . The cost would have been £ 277 to WD , AND garage agreed they would charge me the same if WD did not agree it was covered . In the end they paid , but i had to pick up £140 of the cost due to excess 2 items £50 each and 50% of part value . So if anyone is thinking of WD seriously do the calculation over 2 years at the premium , and either take the risk and save up the monthly cost . In my case over 3 years nearly 1200 in premiums and only this job and a new Radiator fan , so i would have been better just puting the money each month in to a savings account .

And a wheel bearing would be wear and tear, surely? Like brakes, clutch... etc

But it is covered under the WD policy , unlike brakes clutch etc , but over 100k miles they only pay 50% of parts value
