900 Miles In And...potential Teething Problem

Featured Replies

OK..had a wee search and couldnt find anything with a concrete answer that I could get the dealer to look for.

So... 900 miles into its life and twice now, both times after a short journey (5/6miles from cold start, but in the afternoon) after stopping and turning the ignition off, exiting the car the fan comes on and stays on for 3-4 minutes.

It is not only on but really quite loud. Today was the second time and my wife had it when it happened. She said that it also produced a burning oil type smell, which my mum witnessed also so I cant say 'dont be daft' now.

Im hoping its just a temp sensor or something but am quite dis heartened to say the least at even typing this so early in :(

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

This happened to me a couple of weeks ago. It appears it's quite normal, when I looked it up in the manual, it does say it can come on for up to 10 minutes. I shouldn't worry, I was getting paranoid, but this happens occasionally.

If its a diesel then it could be an interrupted regen, perfectly normal.

A bit reassuring guys thanks. My previous PD never did this though.

Did your old PD have a DPF though?

I had similar thing with mine after I had it 6 weeks had only done a few hundred miles then took it on a 3000 mile round trip and upon return a week of town driving later MAX fan noise on exiting had already read on here that its meant to be a feature of the CR engines to do with the DPF clearing itself out something along the lines of if it needs to it can burn itself off injecting diesel creating a lot of heat hence fan. I am sure someone who knows the exact science behind it will be along shortly but doesn't sound like a worry to me. If you want to get dealer to check for fault codes.

at last I have my uses enjoy

My PD TDi Vrs sometimes does this after a short run but the fans only run on for a few seconds. I thought it was something to do with the Air Con.

It doesn't do it all the time

yours prob is I don't think the PD's can do this process of clearing DPF all by themselves and have the light on drive it like you stole it only method

Yes it's an interrupted regen, providing it's a CR.

Mine also did this when it was new which worried me at first. A quick briskie search put my mind at rest. Since then its never done it since.
