Trackers

Featured Replies

I have been thinking about getting a tracker fitted for a while now. Does anyone on here have one fitted or know somone who has? Are they worth the money. Possible Group purchace

Used to have the basic Tracker (Tracker Retrieve?!) on my Scooby as it was needed for the insurance. I had no reason to ever test it so don't know how useful it was, but I know the insurance company now insist on an active tracker (ie not one that you have to ring a number to activate). :)

I guess it depends if you want your car back after someone's nicked and thrashed it, and if they're pro's, your tracker will have probably been removed pretty pronto anyway.......

I tend to agree with Chris.

In the early days after their invention they were a good idea as they were difficult to find in the car. As time has passed the theives or whoever have learned what the boxes look like and the mose likely hiding places inside the car. Untill a new smaller version that can be hidden in more places inside the car is devised I think they are of little use except maybe in the case of the oppotunist theif.

I looked into having one of these...again for insurnace purposes. owever I found that the cost of buying one when compared to the monies saved on insurance was negligible.

Doubt it would stop a professional thief and to prevent for the opportunist thief it's probably better, and cheaper, to get something like a disclok

I looked into this a few weeks ago and found that Direct Line would not offer me any money off my insurance for having a tracker fitted.

A good idea anyway ... But I agree with Manny ... The Box is detecteable, if mounted in "common" places.

But perhaps fitted in the engine bay or a well prepared (masked) place underneath the car

A profesional thief will nick any car he wants, If you use a well lined container the signal wont get through but thats more for the cars worth tens of thousands of pounds.

If your car is stock & you dont carry a lot of valuables in it then its a waste of money, If the car is heavily modified then you have to realise if its nicked the Insurance only pay out for a stock car (unless you are with one of the few where you can specifically insure extras)

Personaly I think they are a good idea as I would quite like to get my car back, the kind of thief who nicks a Skoda is a joy rider & he wont know whether or not it has a trackeras there are no stickers on the car, (if there were he would look for it) . My guess is your car will probably be found a few days later with all the Goodies stripped off.

I had RAC Trackstar Protector on the Scooby. Cost just under 1k to have it fitted and a lifetime subs so not cheap!! I had to have one for the insurance but to be honest I didn't really know if the car had one or not. I never saw the kit and it was fitted at the dealer before I took delivery of it.

It's supposed to be GPS, GSM and linked into the immobiliser so in theory if the car moves without the immobiliser being deactivated they ring you up and ask you if you've moved your car.

I have NavTrak proactive fitted.

When you turn the ignition on you get a beep which means you have 20 seconds to place the deactivation on the sensor otherwise it alerts NavTrak and they phone my mobile to confirm who is driving the car.

hmmmmm like the idea of navtrak how much ?

FOOOK! Maybe ill just keep it in the garage for now eh!?

Same here, and as DIrect Line are so much cheaper for me than everyone else seemed no point. Anyway who'd want to nick a Skoda ;)
