MPG after remap

Featured Replies

Hey

Got my vRS professionally mapped a few months ago but the mpg is starting to kill me. Even on motorways I can only average around 35-6 and normal driving around only about 25-8. I got the impression that the mk1 vrs was pretty good after a remap. I used to get up in the high 40s before the map. Could this be a remap problem? The power is nice so I'm not sure I could go back to standard though.

I would do a full scan and see if there's anoth er problem caused my the extra boost. Did you change the dump valve to one with a stronger spring?

Only thing I've changed is the spark plugs to NGK BKR7E since the remap everything else is standard.

Ok just checked my vcds and there are no errors!

i only see about 35mpg on the motorway and 20 something round town.. i thought that was about right for the vRS?

i can just, if im soooooo soooooooooo good

and take the bost boooooooooooring drive ever

like real stuck behind a tractor stuff :wall:

its not petrol well used and money well spent thats for sure

usually i may get mid/low 30s on a run :giggle:

but mostly i clear fuel rather swiftly  but hey. least my money then makes me smile :sun:

i use vpower or the tesco 99 and £20 sees me maybe 60 -70 miles :bandit:

Funny you should mention this as I used to get around 42mpg on a steady run WITH the map, however since I've been running the SAME plugs as you I can't get over 38mpg no matter how hard I try. I assumed it was down to the weather tho.

I used to get up in the high 40s before the map.

Really? Highest I ever got with mine standard was about 41mpg. Averaged about 34mpg with mixed driving.

Mate of mine used to drive his pretty hard (police driver) and averaged 28mpg before an AMD remap 23mpg after.

Other things that can affect it - failing coolant temp sensor, underinflated tyres, binding rear brake calipers

High 40s sounds VERY unlikely to me!

Best I had was 42mpg to doncaster and back trundling along.

34MPG average day-today :D

42MPG on a run :)

It's reassuring to know its not just me! :giggle: But I do miss not having to put 20 in every 2 or 3 days!

£20 gets about 3 litres of petrol these days, that's why!

One of my coil packs snapped when i was changing the spark plugs and i was only getting about 35MPG on a run. I swapped all four of them for the nice red ones that Awesome GTI sell and im now getting 40MPG on a run once again

After remap on a run and driving like the queen mothers chauffeur with aircon off 45.1 mpg. Alternatively track day at Brands Hatch saw 7mpg lol.

how are you calculating your MPG? If it's on the trip someone who used both methods of working out MPG noticed that before the map the trip was way over reading, and after map it was closer, maybe this is the reason? I get 35mpg long term average on mine, have seen mid to high 40's on a run but that was averaging 60mph on the motorways,

I tend to average 30-35 normal driving. Upwards of 40 on the motorway and then mid 20s if the boost is being used properly. With maps though nearly every person who does them is different. Mine is a Motech high power x map and the mpg is still pretty decent.

I get about 30mpg day to day(I have a heavy right foot) and about 42 on a run. You mentioned that you have changed the plugs and one of the coilpacks have blown, have you gapped the spark plugs down after the map? This will cause the coilpacks to blow if not, and won`t be helping you mpg either.

what should they be gapped to? i wasn't told to re-gap mine
