Shark Performance Stage 2...........

Featured Replies

………………….I just thought I would share my experience.

I’ve had a Milltek downpipe with 200 cell sport cat fitted since just before Christmas but due to work and child care commitments the soonest I could escape to get the stage 2 software was today.

I booked a visit with Rob (W8 Performance) this morning and arrived just after 10am, first things first, nice cup of rosy followed by some man moments drooling over his new wheels……Then on to reading my current file. Some of may be aware I have been running a generic Angel Tuning map for a few years, and tbh I’ve been very happy with it, however Miko @ Shark decided to create a new file from a standard map. After uploading and emailing the file we took my car out for a blast just to give Rob an idea of how good (or bad) the Angel Tuning map was, his immediate reaction was although good, it wasn’t as fast as his, particularly in 2nd and 3rd. Bear in mind he is running a Shark stage 1 with an Evoms intake compared to mine which has an Evoms but also the downpipe. Just to confirm his thoughts we went out in his and I have to agree definitely better all round (iirc his car made 251.5 bhp on Shark rollers).

Anyway, after our bit of fun we went back to Rob’s for another cuppa, and while chatting notification came through that the file was done. After the longest 20 minutes I can remember waiting for the file to upload to the car, all was well and we took it out for a spin.

If I’m honest, first impression, not that much difference, but as I starting playing about through the gears I realised how much smoother the power delivery was. At about 1pm I left Robs and made my way home, which is when the real fun began!!! After about 10 miles I had the measure of the car and I can report the following:

1st gear – I could honestly say it’s no longer required…..

2nd gear – I hate to use the term but, OMG, the pick up is so quick it’s ready for 3rd in the blink of an eye.

3rd gear – This is a bit more reserved but if you get the car at the right speed then bury the loud pedal whiplash is a concern!

4th gear – Ridiculous, no further comment required.

5th /6th gears – pick up is excellent in both gears, desperate to find a private road to test 75 – 100.

So to summarise, Rob is a top bloke, he makes a cracking cup of tea, the map isn’t bad either…………..

I am one happy bunny!!!! :D

EDIT: I forgot to mention the noise, now that has definitely improved!

Is yours TSI or TFSI? Did you get it on some rollers? What's it estimated to be putting out if not?

once I get my Diverter Valve replaced this weekend I should get my Shark Stage 2 on the RR and see what its making :-)

Nice one Lee, I always knew you'd get there one day. Now you just need the fuel pump and 2+ file and you'll be done ;)

Did I mention the clutch? :o

Sounds like you've had a good day, there are some nice roads out the back of Tonbridge

Mine is the Tfsi mate, I haven't had it dyno-ed (yet) but Sharks estimate is 260 bhp and I wouldn't argue with that!

I was very tempted to go stage 2+/3 there and then if Rob had had a set of internals in stock, unfortunately or fortunately as the case may be he didn't. Tbh, upgrading the clutch puts me off anyway.

Brilliant day, and yes there are some very good roads.......

My clutch started to slip at stage 1 in top gear so I hope you're lucky.

Next up is a video of the Marauder on the Dyno then Mr P !

Result.

:)

Fingers crossed mate, if it does start to go I will take the plunge on stage 2+/3!

It will happen mate.

I'm going to get mine on the dyno the weekend of ultimate dubs. I am wondering how tsi stage 1 compares to tfsi stage 2.

I would say not far off tbh, the stage 2 on the Tsi is apparently comparable to the stage 2+/3 on the Tfsi as the HPFP is rated to 150 bar vs 130 bar......:(

I reckon my revo stage 1 on performance mode 2 is between 250 and 260 but I'll see soon enough. I am constantly surprised by the things it keeps up with when it really shouldn't :-)

Sounds good that! Im opting for the Stage 3 map as I have the 3inch TBE and the HPFP internals fitted but I am sticking with the OE intake. Speaking to various tuners it will still produce between 270 to 280bhp as the power is made with altering the timing and fuel etc. These cars are so addictive and fun to tune

Schweet, I would budget for a clutch, intercooler and imo an intake tbh, the intake really is a requirement on stage 2+/3 software!

@ vRS_Pagey;

So, only the DP and sports cat ? the rest of the exhaust is 'standard' ?

Possible that you can upload a sound clip of the exhaust now ? I am currently looking at options for a bit more sound...

Correct, just a Milltek 2.75" downpipe and 200 cell sport cat. The exhaust doesn't make much noise, it's more of a deeper burble on tick over, and a lovely rumble on rev down......

I thought about adding a cat back, but tbh it will add only 1-2 bhp if anything, it is more for the sound. But at 38 I think maybe I'm a bit old for that now, lol.

Defo budget for a clutch. You will need one eventually ;)

Great news. The more you drive it the better it becomes and will still surprise you months from now ;-)

Why would you want to fit internals?

And do you have a DSG ?

I understand where you are comming from, im 34 myself and not looking for a noisy exhaust... but I have posted something here before, take a look; http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/229193-options-for-2011-vrs-tsi-exhaust/page__p__2693430#entry2693430

Well done Pagey. I'm sure it was worth the wait :)
