If I replace H7 bulbs with Philips Xtreme

Featured Replies

I'm after better headlight vision so have opted for Philips Xtreme H7 for the dipped beam, but do I need to replace the H3 high beam as well, or will these be OK as standard? I'm not bothered about the 'look', I just want better vision on the road

Cheers

No legal requirement to change the main beams mate.

Cheers, but I kind of meant is it worth upgrading the H3 at the same time or is the main beam good enough as it is?

Just wondering what other people's experience of Night Breakers or Xtreme bulbs is

Yes upgrade them all to Philips Xtreme. When i first bought my superb, the headlights were milky. Some 3M polish took care of that and made them look as new. Then, because this is legal in Denmark, I upgrade all lights to aftermarket HID's for optimal sight. I've never regret it, now i can literally see EVERYTHING. :-)

Put a relay on the high beams at the very least, the high beams are pathetic on Mk1 superb compared to Mk1 Octavia.

Voltage at the lamp is pitiful 11V, relay will give you close to 13V and about double light output or 40% more range, not to mention better colour. Then you can fit upgrade bulbs and get even more improvement.

High beams are not monitored, so the only hassle of providing a relay is that you need to run a lot of cable from battery to near the lights as there are no reliable ground connections near the lights (on front carrier).

Cheers all. New bulbs all round then :)

Good, and if you buy them from the right place you will get a set of "blue" sidelight bulbs to compliment the whiter new light that these bulbs put out, its taken me 11 years to do that to my wife's Polo (it has had Extremes almost from new), my B5 Passat with factory fit HIDs is meant to have something that that for sidelights but it hasn't - must fit these "blue" sidelight bulbs soon!

Stupid question, but are all H7 and H3 fitments the same for all cars? I was looking on e-bay and some bloke's got 300 listings for the same bulb but for every make and model of car under the sun. I thought H7 was H7 and fitted any car with an H7 fitment :S

H7 is a fitting standard, which means all H7 bulbs will fit any car make & model as long as the fitment is H7.

I suggest you buy from Powerbulbs.com, their delivery and service is exceptional in my opinion.

Cheers, I'll check them out. That e-bay seller must be mad though. Must have cost a fortune to list all of them
