Rattling when cold

Featured Replies

In really cold mornings the vrs rattles for a second

At first I suspected the alternator pully clutch but today I started it and listened whilst under bonnet

Noise is comming from under cam cover sounds like the chain rattling when cold :(

Is this common ? I change the oil every 3-4 k

I was wondering could this be the oil pump not giving enough pressure to chain tensioner so was going to just order new oil pump Cambelt kit , water pump and do the chain in head whilst I am in there

No mention of the oil pick up pipe there, could be worth changing that first m8

Apperntly it's modified and u need to fit the pump too ?

First I've ever heard of that m8 where did you hear that from? Its a straight swap

One of my mates who works in a vee dubbed dealership hmm

Sorry but I think he's talkin out of his bum m8. Loads of people have changed the oil pick up pipe without changing the oil pump

this is a typical VAG 1.8T turbo noise - it takes a short period of time from starting for the tensioner to receive oil pressure since it is near the end of the pathways

nothing to be worried about as long as it disappears after a second and the car is running fine

Yeah it does that I just don't want it to do it lol I am going to order the pick up n see if it cures it , I need to do the Cambelt anyway pluse number one seal is leaking into the coil pack so I want to do it all at once had striipin jobs twice

pickup prob wont change anything tbh, try using low viscosity long life oil - it flows better from cold

you dont need to change the oil pickup just make sure it gets a good clean. means you have to drop the sump but definately worthwhile for peace of mind knowing it is done
