Fabia vRS Estate in Evo Magazine

Featured Replies

I know someone mentioned it a few weeks ago that they had one on long term test. Any more news on it?

L just oil consumption this month

Quote from issue 168

The oil light flashed up so in went a litre. The Fabia had done 5850 miles, so i thought that would be the norm. But, only 2800 miles later it was asking for more. Checking the dipstick, it was very low. I'll take this as a warning: regular checks will now be made, as the vRS has the same engine as the Polo GTI that's just left us, and that liked to drink a lot of Castrol.

Typical

Infact mine has used slightly less than theirs

This day and age with oil & engine advances, you'd think that this type of oil usage would be a thing of the past.

How the Worlds biggest car manufacturer (who managed to do the impossible with the Veyron) can't sort this engines thirst for oil is a little disappointing.

I have a feeling its going to be more and more common going forward as we see more and more BHP out of less and less displacement.

I also have a feeling it's going to start to play merry hell with all the damn filters they are fitting to modern cars aswell

Though I'm still not unconvinved that VAG's lack of proper directions on running the car (especialy with the DSG) and the dealers knowing less than you could write on the back of a match box about the cars isn't agrivating the issues.

just wait until you get more miles on... 20-25k now, and not even the slightest drop has been used in mine... so it cant be an overall issue...

some engines though are designed to use oil, the "wet cylinder" engines used in renaults for example..... like the clio williams, they were designed that way, and renault said you must constantly top up....

anyone else like me though? or am i unique at not having any oil consuption? anyone else over 20k? (I know one member was, but he's now got the renaultsport megane...)

getting so much out of a small engine must be a factor in the oil comsumption. My old Hybrid Ibiza Cupra used to go through enough.

Was the same for me Shark. Once I went over 10k it only needed a litre to 16k. From 16k to 22k, nothing.

Somebody else on here has done close to 20k as well. Not sure who it was though.

Dave I'm not particularly worried about it mines far from the worst so far (touch wood), I'm more comenting on the fact that the people with the least oil useage are the ones who raged the car from new which goes against what the dealer told me to do.

Almost everyone on here has had a bit of an issue of the dealers not being 100% up on the specifics of the VRS

It appears to be a bit of a common issue with the sportier end of all the VAG ranges as I've seen alot of the guys on the R forums having similar issues one that springs to mind was one of the lads being told that having no rear drive on his golf was normal (its 4 wheel haldex by the way if you don't know)

Also with the DSG I'm supprised they don't give you a running in map on the DSG where it automaticly changes gear every so often to avoid running the same RPM and then change it out after say a thousand miles to the normal map.

Though I'm still not unconvinved that VAG's lack of proper directions on running the car (especialy with the DSG) and the dealers knowing less than you could write on the back of a match box about the cars isn't agrivating the issues.

Absolutely agree.

Unfotunately my experience has not been the same and am waiting the outcome of the VAG process to monitor oil consumption which in itself seems strange and the service department can't really tell me what they are doing. I know they are putting in a weighed amount of oil, I then do 300 miles or so and they have the car back in to remove the oil and reweigh it. However, they did this twice which i was sort of surprised at (although from a scientific point of view gives a better average) but the dealer has not really been able to explain exactly what they were doing. Just waiting them for them to do the calculations and find out if anything further that needs to be done.

In terms of my oil consumption, up to the first service i used about 1.5 litres which in the great scheme of things I did not think too bad. However, post the service I went through 4.5 litres in the next 6000 miles or so which started to get me a little concerned, hence back to the dealers with it.

It may well transpire to be within the VAG use llimits but these i personally feel to be a little on the high side at 600 ml per 1000 (not sure if miles of km though). If it is miles, probably not a big problem, if kms thats potentially a lot of oil to go through.

Does anyone know exactly what the VAG oil consumption test entails?

Patience Guys, get a few more miles on and the oil consumption will drop to next to nothing; assuming you have run in to makers recommendations.

Tony how many miles have you made it to so far and when did your oil usage stop?

Just some of the bocca's didn't start lunching oil till 30k+ then failed epicly before 40k given I believe a lot more bocca's were mapped from newish I'm not overly worried but I am keeping an eye on it.

Mine hasn't yet used a drop after 13K KM (or 8K miles) but after all these complaints here, I almost feel ashamed or worried that something is wrong whenever I check the level and find it is exactly where I left it, lol... I think: "hey are you stupid? Your car MUST drink oil, you can't say it's ok, there's something wrong, go out and check again!"

Oil consumption dropped dramatically after about 6-7K miles. I have only put a dribble in since, now at 12K.

Tony i hope your right, but having covered over 18000 miles now and its drinking problem getting worse, i am obviously concerned. Unsure on its current consumption as the oil has been changed three times in the last few weeks, twice for the VAG test and its once for its second service.

Jerry

I'll update when i hear back from the dealer following the oil consumption test.

well at least I know that their "advantages of being in the press" statement about the black roof isnt true. There`s a silver vRS estate with a black roof on Autotrader. Looks better than the red one IMHO, bit more subtle!

Oh dear, it does sound like you have a problem with yours.
