Boost hose through bulkhead/Wiper help <merge>

Featured Replies

i've searched, and used every method mentioned on the forum ref: removing the wiper on my octavia, been out and bought a removal tool.this is worse than useless,it doesn't sit flush and has a rounded end to the thread, which just falls of the pivot when tightened.

the end of my tether has been reached and passed,i've nearly given up.

its now soaked in WD40,i'm going to give an hour or so for it to soak in and for me to calm down.

failing this is there another possible route for a boost gauge hose?i was thinking door/inner wing /engine bay.

any help and p*ss taking greatly recieved,i shouldn't be this stressed ,i'm on holiday :(

I take it is the arm you are removing as wd40 and wiper blades don't mix

The WD40 should do the trick. Just remember where the arem was originally when it comes to refitting.

found delcac's superb picture guide on how to fit a boost gauge on the 20vt,and after spending nearly all day just to get the flaming wiper off, rain stopped play with lots of swearing as i tried to get the hose through the bulkhead.

i managed to push about 6-7 inches through ,but couldn't find it at the other end, leon owners tell me to expect it near the exellarator.

i am thinking of some fencing wire attached to the end of the hose to help start it off.

will i be better off removing the drivers side lower section of the dash to get it up to the corner of the windscreen?any help most welcome

This isn't going to help, but i am having a similar problem. I have fitted a A Pillar triple gauge pod and need to pass the Boost Pipe and Oil Pressure Cable through the bulk head. I have managed to get the wiper off but can't lift the plastic high enough to work under it. I am as annoyed about this as you are about not being able to remove the wiper. When you do get the wiper off, can you let me know what you do from there?

no idea here mate but lurking for the answer, wouldn't mind a boost gauge myself

I removed the under side of the drivers dash and still cant see were it comes through. Still you have got further than me, i can't get the tube through from the engine bay. (not sure if the pipe that came with the gauge is long enough anyway)

i thought that when i fitted a gauge in the nova but it uses surprisingly little tube

Bought a universal one and er... modified it. Have attached it to the original pillar.

Undo the bolt. press down slightly on the joint (where the actual arm "bit" meets the bit that has the bolt through) as it is under tension which makes it sit skewed against the thread. Easier said than done, but once you have mastered it it is simple :D.

Might not help too much if you've got pillar pod mounts, but I gave up looking for spare grommets or pulling the car to pieces when running cables to my gauges, and ended up drilling the bulkhead as Joel_RS did in this thread (see his pics of the passenger footwell). I drilled there right next to the moisture drain for the air conditioner (or whatever it is). You could run a pipe from there, behind the centre console, behind the drivers side lower dash, and then on to your gauges. Might be a bit of a long route, but the position for drilling the bulkhead is a real time saver, and pretty convenient for the fuel pressure regulator which is where my boost pipe taps into the vacuum system.

Of course it could be siezed, but your right, its under tension unless you lift the wiper off the glass... A good bit of jiggling could then loosen it!

a 3 hour soak in wd40,then took off the blade itself, its doesn't help with the bonnet in the way,but got it off in the end.

a second pair of hands to hold the arm up would of helped,as the arm catches on the underside of the bonnet, mines got no sounds deadening so was hit the bonnet a bit.mines going onto the dump valve vacum so feeding it onto that side of the bulkhead may be help.cheers

i have very narrow gauge nylon tube with the gauge, theres bugger all in the engine bay i can adapt to join them,so i have gone for 3.5mm hose(inside diameter) that will go straight onto the vaccum hose on the dump valve and on the gauge with a brass adapter.

it will be more of a job to get through but will look factory fit in the engine bay

BTW, if you drill, take care, the soundproofing will wrap round your drill bit! Also, the edges of the hole will be sharp, so you should use an automotive grommet to protect your pipe/wires.(Halfords sell em).

Last thing I did was slap a bit of hammerite round the hole to cover the bare metal.

Are these pics any use?

Its a MKIV Golf, but basically the same as the Octy.

did consider taking it out completely, but wasn't sure the window seal would be affected.

btw i have asked this and my bulk head thread to be merged by admin.lots of similar Q's and A's

i have asked the admins to merge this with a current and similar thread, will save multi posts and may get us somewhere faster ;)

good work fellah

The description TaviaRS gave is spot on for removingthe wipers. He's also done a pretty good job of explaining it. Once you figure out the trick they're easy to take off.

On the Golf I ran my nylon boost hose through the same grommet as the bonnet release. However I reckon the easier option is to use the black plastic box that unbolts and has a grommet with a loom coming through to the ECU, this comes out just behind the relay plate.

For the boost connection the most reliable reading is gained by tapping into the boost hose connected to the FPR.

The black plastic trim panel comes off more easily if you warm it with a hairdryer. It also helps prevent it splitting in cold weather.

well my hands are covered in spanner rash, but its in,the bulkhead was alot easier today,a couple of twists of the hose and some pushing,i get back in the car and theres plenty of hose in the footwell.pushed the wire down from the dash top, gaffer taped them together and pulled the hose up to the dash top, making sure it had a safe journey and didn't snag on any wires/fuse/relays.

wiring was a bugger, very little to play with,so extended it a few inches to enable me to get my chipolata fingers in there.

thanks to those who have posted advise, and a big cheers to delcac who's photo's have proven invaluable.

just one problem now though, bugger needs securing better, double sided tape isn't good enough.

also it does look a bit bling :o
