a few seat ibiza 14tsi engine problems (oil usage)

Featured Replies

Wow curs good find, could this be the issue with the vrs? Very bad so the looks like some of the builds are comprimised throughout the vag group cars

The Achilles Heel for the 1.4TSi I guess.

I see Citroen have just produced a 1.6 turbo with 260 bhp ! Wonder if that uses oil ?

Wonder how long it will be before someone tries putting it in the ds3.

Doesn't even seem limited to 1.4tsi's. Might be a more extreme case due to the performance/size of the engine, but if you search for 2.0tsfi oil consumption problems you find quite a few empty dipsticks.

mmm some of the poeple on that thread.. "I checked the oil today, and it wasn't even on the dipstick!!" that will damage the engine, cause more wear , oil consuption ect........ and even failure.

remember the honda v-tech units, they DO use oil, and the only failure honda were getting was when people didn't check and top up oil.....

I dont see the big issue... some of our works vehicals have engines that are designed to burn oil (like the old "wet cylinder" renault engines) and they need topping up, if you dont do it, they could fail...

even in my car, I topped up 1 litre during the first 10,000 miles... I can imagine alot of damage would have been done if I had not!

if these engines use oil in the first 20k or so, then so be it! I believe the handbook says the engine can use oil, so must be checked and topped up regulaly...

I agree some people have stupidly excessive oil usage... but I still think, less than VAG's accepted usage is exactly that! accepted usage by their own terms on their own design.

Exactly. You should be checking oil regularly anyway. I try to do it once a week when I work in the other shop. There I park is on perfect level so it's accurate. I'd never let the light come on before topping up. What would happen on cars with no warning in the past? I've used 2.5 litres in 5300miles which is more than I've topped up all the cars I've owned combined but that just because it's a small engine with lots of power and imo will use oil. All the vans where I used to work used oil, the two cars my boss had over the time I was there a 1.8t cab A4 and 2.0TDI A5 both used oil during running in.

So if say my car uses another 2.5 litres up to the 10k service it's had 5 litres and at the moment ASDA sell the correct spec oil and it's Castrol for £9 a litre so for me that's about £45 for oil which isn't even one extra tank of fuel. I'm guessing once it's had it's first service it will start using a lot less. All I would advise people to do is keep an eye on it as you should with any vehicle imo. If you spend a good chunk of money on a car you want to look after it. Is it worth being lazy and not checking it once a week? Only takes 2 mins and protects your engine

another thing about border cars who service my car , they use Syntium 5000xs oil in their services, its a higher grade than needed for the vRS, (VW 505.01) and is (wierdly) the oil BMW use to service their diesel models.... http://www.hendyperformance.co.uk/product/SYNTIUM_5000_XS_5W30_1_litre_18141616-_5W30

dont know if the type of oil used at service could make a difference.... my oil consuption dropped dramatically after the first service...

0-10,000 miles 1 litre

10-20,000 miles 250mil

20-25,000 miles none.
