Drivers side window constantly retracts.

Can I pick your brains please.

When I flick the drivers side window switch the window will regularly go part way then retract back down part or all the way, it will do this even if I hold the switch to raise the window. It can be seriously frustrating trying to do the simple thing of closing the window!

Any ideas on what the problem is and how to resolve it permanently. (I've tried the reset method & that doesn't work every time.)

TIA

ES.

Try cleaning the window switch connector - may fix it.

Where's that and is it easily accessible by a cack-handed amateur?

It's a plug that connects to the bottom of the actual switch that you use to open/shut the window.

I've not taken mine off (have done on other cars) so can't tell you exactly how to take it off, but shouldn't be difficult.

If i understood correctly, that could be the (i think is called) anti-pinch, it's that security feature that re-open the window when too much force is applied. That happened to my Octavia cos i had a sticker on the rear side window that was "applying friction"..

Basically, i think there is something wrong with the window movement..

my pickup used to do this it was nothing to do with the switch. the " groove " that the glass runs in gets dry or dirty and affects the pinch safety setting, a small dab of rubber grease or even wd 40 sorted it out

I had this on my Octy hatch nearly 3 years ago, no matter how quickly I flicked the switch to make the windwo go up by the slightest amount, once it hit a certain spot, it simply opened itself again.

I used some silicon spray inide the window channels, and then operated the switch a number of times to get the silicon worked right down into the hidden bits of channel inside the door. I've never had any problem with it since.

+1 for silicone spray. Much better than spray oil on plastic and rubber etc. often put a drop on the cargo blind track in the Scout to keep it retracting smoothly & evenly.

Bought some today and it seems to have cured the problem!

Thanks a lot gents.

Good job

I've never understood why this isn't included in a service! Many years ago a local VW dealer used to do this to the window runners and door seals at every service, and when I had Fords with power sun roofs, they used to use a form of graphite powder on the sunroof runners at service too. They also used to supply a wet wipe thing with silicone grease in it to clean and lubricate electric ariels! Stopped folks wrecking them by filling them full of WD40  !
