Remap queries

Featured Replies

Evening all,

Looking into remapping my 56 plate vrs & i just got a few questions if anyone can help.

Firstly, what sort of bhp increase would be considered safe & within the limits of the existing turbo?

Secondly, would a stage 1 remap require any engine modifications?

Thirdly, would it require upgraded discs & pads or would the standard be sufficient?

And finally, any recommendations of companies to carry out the remap?

Replies & comments would be much appreciated.

240 ish on a stage 1 and turbo/engine will be fine, as will the standard brakes. Shark and Revo will get the most nods on here.

Bluefin by superchips is a good option and you dont have to travel anywhere as it is a DIY job you can also sell it on or re-use it on another car. Oh and I got mine for £450 all in from demon tweeks with K&N panel filter.

What bhp are you running off that then? Don't like the idea of me messing with the ecu!

Kuka, as Nobafett has said, 240 is expected power from a stage 1 map, after fitting my S3 brakes I would say they are a requirement with that power but not essential. Stage 1 is purely a software upgrade so no other mods required, personally I would save a bit longer and get a down pipe with sport cat and jump straight to stage 2, if I could do it all again that's the route I would take.

As to price, it varies depending on the tuner, but if you are anywhere near these guys they are offering 100 quid off Shark remaps at the moment via a forum discount on the mk5golfgti forum.

Shark also do an STS device to upload the file yourself, I have done swmbo's Golf this way and believe it's a piece of cake.

How much did you pay for the S3 brakes? Was that pads & discs?

240 would be more than enough to be honest, i mean i think its pretty nippy standard but i just want that little bit more from it so would probably settle for the stage 1.

Are there any tuners anyone would steer clear from?

They claim 238bhp but with the filter aswell could be up to 250! It does feel very fast! It really is easy to do, you download your programme via your OBD port into the bluefin then connect it to your PC, email it to superchips for them to modify then load the tuned file into the bluefin then into the car again via OBD. With 35 years experience I dont think you can get a better brand name than superchips.

230 to 235bhp used to be the most you would get from a tfsi stage 1. A filter won't give you anything more than 1 or 2bhp, an induction kit would give a bit more though.

I have just read the thread and just to be on safe side as there are both diesel and petrol available as 56 plate this is a petrol you have Kuka? as that is what all figures in replies are based on. (I saw no indication of which in OP)

Yes pal, i have the petrol vrs.

I am stage 2+ around 270ish bhp and use the standard brakes and pads. Never had an issue stopping on the road with them. If you are a last minute braker then you will still be fine. My brakes have never faded to date. If you track the car then I would think about changing the brake setup but not until. But for road use the OE brakes are more than upto the job.

Anyone know how much additional power output a standard clutch on a 1.8tsi 6 speed manual octy 2 take ?

Should it be good enough for a stage 1 revo map ?

Believe me that 35 years experience doesn't show. I had bluefin stage 1,2 and 2+. It made less power and torque and was slower than pretty much every other equivalent map i tried or had a spin against. The stage 2 had 15+ revisions trying to get it right. They never succeeded. The stage 2+ was a big improvement but still slower than a shark stage 2 with much less mods.I then changed to shark and every map was better than bluefin.

Since selling that ive now had 3× maps on my Fabia. Shark performance, then Jabbasport and now APR.

Wasn't happy with my shark map. Jabbasport did an awesome custom map making more power with much less boost but I'm with APR now for a custom switchable hybrid map. Jabba and APR have been very very goid to work with over the last two months.

Your best options IMO:

1-APR(adjustable via cruise control stalk) probably the biggest most experienced VAG tuner in the world also new APR europe HQ now opened in Milton Keynes so UK support is much improved,

2-Jabbasport excellent maps written to your specific request,

3-PTorque in 5 years onVAg forums I have never seen one bad review and they make great figures.

4-REVO(adjustable via sps switch) have a proven map as well but im not a fan.

If i get a tfsi or tsi againi wouldne looking no further than APR, jabba or PTorque and that's it.
