For me the best sounding motor vehicle EVER !

F1 cars are better

Oh yes... triple rotor ****el engine running at up to 12,000rpm from memory...

The rotary Mazda's at Le Mans (both the above and the RX7's) were always awsome from trackside and sent a chill down your spine...

That sounds sweet.

For me the mk2 escort, that induction noise is just awesome.

300bhp normally aspirated.

I too love the wan_kel engined motors. Would love to have a RX8 but the appauling fuel (and oil) consumption but they do turbo up very nicely and their rev limit can be virtually doubled from standard due to the lack of conrod stresses compared to piston cars.

They remind me of a cross between a four stroke and two stroke car which I suppose they are being a three stroke. I was involved in the R&D of the Norton wan_kel engined motor cycle which had a similar insane exhaust note. Those US race rules setters nobled the RX8 by forcing a rev limit on them so scared were they that it would be insanely fast. Dr Felix was a genious with his ghosted epitrociod.

(You cannot write DR Felix ****el as the software astixs it out)

Pretty sure you'd struggle to get one to 20,000rpm! I've read in a few places that the engine fitted to the '8 is destroyed by vibrations at 13k rpm.

Mine wasn't too bad on oil - 1litre to 1,000+ miles. Pretty sure some of the new VAG engines drink more!

I did used to love that engine though, doubt I'll drive anything like it again what with the new emission laws and (I believe) the end of the RX range of cars.

I've always thought that nothing sounded better than a Ferrari flat 12.

But then I think my motoring genes were set watching the Canonball run and seeing the Countach take off at the start so I like the sounds of 70s engines.

And ladies in lycra jump suits, but that's another issue.
