Vrs Servicing

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

Had my vrs a few months now and have done approx 5000 miles so would like to get the oil changed. This was done when I bought the car but as I have done so many miles since owning it in such a sort space of time I would like it done again.

can anyone reccommend a decent garage near Liverpool? and how much should I expect to pay? I have never had a car serviced at a garage before as I normally do it myself but want to keep up the service history on this one.

Should I look at replacing anything else for this service. The car is on 105k miles and had a service at 100k before I bought it.

Thanks in advance

Matt

About £50 at a decent indie

A friend of mine owns this place in Liverpool and he's a top mechanic and a German too!

Its on a 10k/12 month interval as standard (no VTS option afaik) so it doesn't matter if you do 10k in a month or a year, some people prefer to reduce the interval (it's not a bad thing but 5k is possibly a little steep especially if you've added 5k in a few months) but if you're doing a few miles and using long life oil it's rated to 18k/24months in the same engine (in the same/higher states of tune).

As you're over the mythical 100k mark (where buyers tend to think car's explode on principal at 100,001 miles) and while your short intervals certainly won't do any harm, personally i'd be putting the £50 towards the inevitable little jobs that will crop up sooner rather than later eg timing belts, water pumps, shocks/springs, bearings & bushes, clutch/dmf, disc's/pads/BFC etc. If you still want to do the oil change you mention you've done it yourself previously i'd that's the best option. It's cheaper in the long run, you know exactly what's going in the sump and anyone buying a car with 100K+ on is likely to be just as happy with a folder of receipts stored with records of what was done and when than a stamp from a garage, at least you know you've used the correct oil and not whatever they had to hand that 'should' meet the standard.
